Great Story Concepts are Fifty to One
Interested in being a writer? How about working two hours a day minimum for six months? That's the kind of course I'm in right now and this drill sergeant style of writing has its plus and minuses.
I'm talking about the ScreenwritingU ProSeries, and let me say your initial euphoria at joining a dedicated group of writers will wear off in just a few days - it'll feel more like teacher Hal Croasmun is putting your brain through a Matrix style restructuring.
But it sure is making me a more competent writer.
I'm working at a speed and level unprecedented for me. The course poignantly focuses on learning to self-evaluate and discover the one golden concept that may be springing out of the fifty I brainstorm.
I didn't even know just what I loved about my own ideas until I went through his first week process, and now I'm like a panther bearing down on just the right wildebeest.
What's that? You typically start writing the first or second premise you come up with? In all humility, I'd say that's the best reason to join the course and open yourself up to your own creativity.
