admittedly, it was a rather ominous opening sentence for the first day of club, the freshies' social hour with the club officers and the rest of the members -- but, c'mon. not everyone could join the school newspaper and expect to be taken in, no questions asked. this year's system was to get all the applicants together before asking them to start the entrance exam.
she had been assigned to take over the room while the editor-in-chief got the materials from the office, and she was perched atop a wooden desk at the front of the room as she addressed the newcomers.
