Introducing : Scribble Victory

1. Hi guys, can you introduce yoursleves and tell the Y Not festival goers a little about the band? 

 We're Scribble Victory. We're an acoustic pop duo from Derby. It's just an acoustic guitar, drums and 2 vocals which sounds like it's not powerful, but it is. We didn't even intend it to turn out this way, but it has and we're really happy. 

 2. What are you most looking forward to at Y Not? 

 Johnny Marr and Basement Jaxx for sure. I'd say Snoop Dogg and Slaves but we can't come on Friday, so we're going to pretend that they're not playing. Also, Alright The Captain! 

 3. Why should people come and see you at the festival and what can they expect? 

We're on on Sunday at 1:20pm on the Hog and Barrel stage. You should probably come and see us because you'll probably be knackered and have a hang over. Chill out on a hay stack and watch us. 

 4. You can pack only 3 things to bring to the festival. What do you bring?

Morrissey once sang 'It's so easy to laugh, it's so easy to hate, it takes guts to be gentle and kind'. The poignancy of those words has never been so strong as I walk through our capital city of London, moving through the passages that connect the poor and the city, passages where people disconnect. It is a part of day-to-day life, walking past homeless beggars and shutting our attentions off. Walking in vacant herds through the streets, funnelled by roadworks. Walking as cattle through the tube stations, stomping and tapping in our trappings. Choosing to be direct and bold in his poetry, rather than being oblique, Jamie Thompson sings about real, actual life in Scribble Victory. We all put on brave faces, we present an existance where everything is fine, we exist in a culture which dismisses, skirts over and ignores problems. We rarely accept our doubts, our fears, our difficulties as a part of our being, prefering to 'overcome' them. We exist selfishly, but cannot ignore those glimmers in quiet afternoons when we feel something more. What would our time look like if we took as much time to reflect and think as Jamie? In a world where we tune in and turn off, of backlit screens and un-understandable economics, we need the love and compassion that Scribble Victory offer. Scribble Victory's self-titled collection of songs feels like it could have been written for numerous character's from David O. Russell's Silver Linings Playbook. Right now I'm more in the mood for Bauhaus' 'Bela Lugosi's Dead', but you might well be in the mood for Scribble Victory. Their current profile picture on facebook is a meeting with the Chuckle Brothers.
