Terrifyingly, Donatello's life is falling into a sort of normalcy again, in spite of the grief that still lingers around him. But as he keeps trying to move along this upswing, Holly Blue of all people makes things more difficult. As if she hates the idea of Donatello caring about her. But just as he begins to navigate that, the threat Big Mama poses becomes more and more present. And the threads get more tangled as Donatello attempts to rescue her assistant from her clutches. Can he really get this masked stranger away from Big Mama? And even if he does, what do they do then?

Bone Deep Color Stains - Chapter 19 - 2-4 Bargaining Chip On Your Shoulder

 “Holly Blue’s in danger.”  His father’s anger vanished in an instant. “What? What happened?”  “I’ll explain when everyone else gets here.” In the meantime, he’d make some tea.   It didn’t take long for the others to arrive. Casey got there in record time on her bike. Draxum and Junior arrived a beat later through a portal. April got there last, but she brought Sunita with her. Everyone lingered in the main room, some sipping on tea. Donatello told them all Holly Blue was in trouble, but he saved the details until everyone got there.   “I… made a mistake.” He started with that.

Holly Blue isn’t a stranger to trying to snatch up Big Mama’s champions in order to reach her own goals. But her recent observations of this one strikes a bit of a personal cord as she watches him slowly give up. When Big Mama refuses to let Holly Blue meet this champion, she takes things into her own hands. But springing him from the arena prisons was the easy part. Now Holly Blue finds herself looking after a turtle who’s not even an adult yet and seems to have lost all his zest for life. If she wants their business deal to work, she has to get to the root of the problem. And then help him find a way to move on.

2025 fic review

Since it's pretty much all I've written this year, might as well do it this way...

Fics completed in 2025

Hardcoded Conduct (4,939 words) – Okay so I technically wrote it in 2024 but I don't think I counted it to the word count back then so... here it is !

I Don't Want to Fall Any Farther (20,997 words) – my aroace Leo fic that got insanely out of hand, love it though, really hit the vibe I was going for

The Devil That You Know (79,621 words) – Cassandra fic that really should get more appreciation, but alas, was nice to write something lower stakes, in a sense

Makes You Feel Ill (11,299 words) – My self indulgent one shot, but I have fun re-reading it

Off Colors: Analogous (215,191 words) – Okay so I STARTED posting this in 2024 but I'm not going to do the math to figure out how many words in I was by that point (it was only 4 chapters though so...)

Family Tradition (10,319 words) – That Splinter oneshot that only evaded sheer tragedy thanks to a tumblr poll

Bone Deep Color Stains (posted: 7,238 written: 28,078) – Man talk about a backlog (Hey please read this) but honestly writing this so far has been... oddly soothing? (Please.) Maybe it's just getting back to a beloved OC or maybe it's because it's about grief again, who knows haha

Off Colors: Harmony (posted: 39,872 written: 47,935) – Shocked at how much of this I got through before new years hits. I wonder if I'll complete it before the AUs second anniversary, that'd be pretty wild if I did !

Not tallying up any drabbles I've done (I know they count but I can't be bothered to dig all that up) that's roughly a word total of 418,379 (minus... however many words those first four chapters of Analogous was).

Approaching half a mil huh, p rad. I gotta keep these habits when I swing back to my original works.

 “Donatello, your father is he… dead?”  The turtle flinched so hard that the screwdriver plunged into the pieces he was trying to pry apart. One of them went flying into the air.  “Apologies.” Her heart already ached. “It’s just that he was a dear friend of mine and I never—”  “He’s not dead.” Donatello interrupted as he got up to get the wayward piece of plastic. “At least he wasn’t when I… left.”  Holly Blue jerked back a bit. “He let you come down here? To fight? Lou would never—”  “He didn’t let me do anything. I just…” He kept his head low as he shuffled back to his work. The speed at which he sat down and got back to work startled her. He didn’t look up.  “Donatello, does he not know you’re down here?”  Silence.

 Frida closed the comic book. “Should I ask him or you what happened?”  Mikey turned his head. “What do you mean?”  “How you died.” She might as well be blunt. “I assume the kraang invasion was the cause, but of course we never learned any details.”   “I mean, I’d tell you. But if it slipped that you already knew…”  Right, then Donnie would presume where she learned it from and wouldn’t be happy about it. “Why is he so afraid of you?”  “He’s not afraid of us! He just… I don’t know. I’m usually good at figuring these kinds of things out, but I don’t know. Seeing us upsets him a lot. I guess knowing we’re around does too. Maybe he’s still mad at us.”  “Mad at you?”  “For leaving him behind.” The box turtle kicked at nothing in the air.

 “You really think it can bring back your brothers?” Frida asked Donnie.   “I have to believe that. I don’t want to consider an alternative.” He blew at the steam in his mug before taking a very small sip. “I admit, the source in which I discovered the scepter only gave me so much information, but it must be able to bring back the dead.”   Frida considered that for a moment. A mystic device that could raise the dead. There must be drawbacks of some kind. Any other necromantic spell she’d heard of had them. But even then…  “Let me help you find it,” she said.

 Donatello didn’t stop staring at the med bay door. Even when the tiny sharp pains of Casey pushing the needle in and out of his skin finally ended. He let the kid wrap the injuries before getting off the bed.  “Try not to tear those open?” Casey asked with an exhausted sigh.  “I’m not planning on it if that’s what you’re implying.” He picked up the goggles and gauntlet he’d scrapped together before the fight. He wanted to keep them, but man they needed some tune ups. There wasn’t a ton to work with in the waiting room.   Though he couldn’t drop it off in his lab right now. He at least moved them from the bedside table to one of the counters.   “You’re not exactly careful anymore, Donnie.”   “How do you know I’ve ever been careful?”  “Must have been more careful than this.”
