The Script-kiddie articles: Hacking wifi - Wpa vs Wep

First of all, sorry for my bad english. I have learnt english playing videogames so i am really good reader but a awful writer. let's go to the article.

From 2000 to 2009 the most used encryption was WEP. And it was glorious. Based in the algorithm RC4 (known for it insecurity) , WEP was surprisingly easy to hack. In about ~10 minutes you could have a pass.

Obviously, the "good guys" stoped the hacking-party by creating the WPA system. And the dark age for the wifi hackers begun. The only way to crack the WPA is bruteforcing it.

Bruteforce is a slow, ineffective , and stupid way of doing things. It means that you must grab a huge dictionary of possibles passwords and test it 1 by 1. What a pitty. 

early, a good pc could test 500-600 pass per second. At this rate, testing a 8 characters long password of only numbers (that is, 10^8) you would need ~55 hours of keeping your pc testing passes. In others words, you just cant crack it.

With the implementation of more sophisticated forms of bruteforcing (rainbow tables) the rates of pass per second experience a huge increase. In my 2 core pentium G. at 3.2GHZ i achieve 1000 pass per second in one core so, 2000 in total. So the hours that a would need now is only ~13 hours. Great.

Recently i bought a nvidia GTX750. more known as "the hacker enguine" Why? because its low price and high CUDA suport. What is Cuda ? nvidia have developed tiny "cpus" and put it in a matrix form generating an awesome micro-super-computer in a chip. Originaly it was designed to play battefield 3 in ultra but by the hackers it is used to make a AWESOME cracking enguine that can provide a rate of 25,000 passes per second. WOW. So, in my pc, i generate 27,000 passes per second.

So, in ~1 hours i get the pass.

Comparing the ~10 minutes cracking of the WEP and the ~1 hours of WPA the only thing i have to say is: Good played. The good guys win this time.
