“you’re going to have to stop me,” cassidy said as she pulled out a cupcake and a large cookie out from the glass display case. being stuck in a bakery was definitely the best and worst place to be. she had food, but it was all sugar. “i have to make sure i look good for my auditions when i get back home and having a face full of acne because of all the sugar i’m eating? yeah, not happening,” she said as she took a bite from one of her sweet treats. “you’re not doing a very good job. i was counting on you,” she teased in reference to her request, motioning with the cookie in hand. “i knew it — you want me to fail,” she continued dramatically.

cassidy could feel the alcohol warming her cheeks, helping her forget about those stupid problems she couldn’t stop thinking about – even when she was in a completely different place that pulled her away from those mentioned problems. while she was looking to grab a snack or another drink – she hadn’t decided yet – she noticed a flash of blonde. reminders of eliza came back and, in the back of her mind, she settled on another drink. she didn’t reach for one. instead, she reached out and tucked the some soft strands of the other’s hair back. “god, you’re gorgeous. but, you probably know that already. pretty people like you are always told how pretty they are. they never get told how smart they are, though, are they? well, you don’t have to say anything – i think you’re way smart too. it’s all in the look,” she babbled, motioning at her own face to show what she implied. “do you want to share this with me?” she asked, picking up a bottle of the champagne that tasted like money.

cass was twirling a strand of hair around her finger, wondering if she should simply ask someone to dance with her or keep waiting. if she kept waiting, however, and no one came to ask her – she would be devastated. she knew she wasn’t very desirable at home anymore, but she was trying to be someone else here. it was a fresh start, after all. she looked over and her eyes met another. she perked up slightly, not wanting to look eager. however, as he drew closer, her brows furrowed slightly. “sorry, do i know you? you look awfully familiar but i only know one person in this god-forsaken place and you don’t have tits.”

ever since cassidy had ended things with eliza back home, life had gone the very opposite of what she’d wanted. karma had decided that it was going to take every bad deed she’d done and give it right back to her tenfold. her auditions fell through, her parents divorced, she could barely keep a simple job. the universe had slapped her in the face with the realisation that she was actually a bad person – something she never really wanted to believe before. but, with how everyone left her behind as she failed, she had no option but to accept it. and though she was trying to change herself for the better, it felt like karma had one more trick up her sleeve – to dump her in some town in the middle of nowhere with eliza right in front of her. “you know, the stage always suited you,” she said as she fully walked into the theater. there was a sheepish look on her face as her heart raced. “i would say you would be the last person i expected here, but you would be the one to give the punishment in my own personal hell.”
