[ ❧ ] Random affectionate headcanon.

Vali is not a very physically-affectionate person, especially when it comes to the simplest forms of it such as hugging. Despite how much he may care for someone, he struggles with hugging the most because he sees it as a form of vulnerability. He’s been betrayed by someone who hugged him before; his grandfather. So, he can’t even trust FAMILY. He cannot trust that they are hugging him out of affection, or with the intent to drive a knife in his back like Odin did. Because of this, he’s followed the rule “never turn your back on your enemy” in the most literal sense possible, and he sees hugging as not only exposing your back to a potential threat but showing them an ounce of care he may have in his heart for them, and for him to be admittedly close to someone is already hard enough. He is terrified to be made a fool of, with the very rare vulnerabilities of his heart. 

But for Cara, in his Darker Verses, this is a somewhat of an exception with the accommodation that she lets him see what her hands are doing, by letting her hug him from the side or around his neck where, if he needed to, he could quickly end the contact. 

In his main MCU verse with Cara, in his much lighter side, Vali simply doesn’t “buy” into the whole physical affectionate thing. Cara is probably the only person that makes a hug feel nice, but with others, he feels a panic attack trying to come on. He doesn’t like being touched in ANY sense because as his wolf form, he feels protected under his coat; he’s used to it. But without it, as his Aesir form, his skin becomes hypersensitive and even the most delicate of touches, set that off and makes him feel as though he’s being constricted and can’t breathe. But Cara’s hugs are something he TRIES to accept from her, by wearing layers upon layers of clothing. Otherwise, besides the hypersensitivity, he simply doesn’t like it. But for Cara, he TRIES. 

[ ♢ ] How they share a bed with your muse. 

He is LITERALLY the most awkward person in the world when it comes to this. When sharing a bed with someone, things will inevitably happen that will trigger Vali’s extreme-awkwardness. For example, when Cara lies her head on his chest in her sleep while he’s reading to her. Vali is a VERY awkward kid; he wouldn’t panic and jump off the bed, but he WILL lie at incredibly awkward angles in the bed, ie: moving himself up the mattress, in an awkward K shape, as not to drop her head right on the bed, and continue working until he’s crawled himself out from under her and is able to get off the bed eventually. However, by the time he’s completed this, and has fallen on his ass out of the bed, it’s usually morning time and time for Cara to get up. 

However, in rare times when they are in his much more complex verse, he will LET her sleep on the crook of his shoulder and arm while he’s training her and can study her power/ability through her sleep.

[ ★ ] First thing that changes when they realize they care about your muse. 

When Vali cares about someone, he becomes EXTREMELY clumsy. He drops things, breaks things, etc. Mostly because his mind is sidetracked. An already clumsy idiot with his mind being sidetracked is NOT a good combination. He trips, falls, etc. Obviously, he was thinking about her.  

One thing he also noticed when he realized his feelings for Cara were shifting, was the fact he was trying for her more than he was anyone else.  Before, the only person he would hug was Narfi. But he began to try harder for her because he WANTED to. When she hugged him for the first time, he’d accepted it so quickly and naturally. But it was short-lived; he could feel a panic attack edging around him. The fear/discomfort is more than just pain based and it honestly frustrates him. It’s a mental base that he can’t seem to understand, no matter how hard he tries but he hates when it happens to people like his mother, father, Narfi, and Cara. So, he started to wear layers of clothing to accommodate that. And the only people he tries for out of his own desire are people that have managed to wedge their ways into his heart.

Vali has a small section of white hair that he hides under a seidr spell.  He suffers from extreme night terrors (nightmares), but the one that earned him this section of hair was the first dream he had about his brother being murdered by a wolf. 

Though he covers the hair with Seidr, it is located on the corner of the front of his head and runs back into the rest of his hair.
