Consecrations, Convictions, and Church Internships!
On May 17, 2015 I graduated from South Carolina School of Leadership. I learned a lot about myself during my seven months there. It was an incredible experience in which I grew a ton and really became more confident about the call of God on my life. If you were wondering what the title implies, I’ll explain it simply like this: I’m coming off of a season of consecrating my life to God in which I learned what convictions I want to have for myself and what beliefs are not convictions in my life and now I’m in a season where I’m interning at my church, Destination Church, in Virginia.
The word Consecrate is defined like this: (v) to make or declare sacred; set apart or dedicate to the service of God. At South Carolina School of Leadership (SCSL) I gave up a lot of freedoms to really chase after God with all that I am. I gave up opposite gender friendships while I was in the program, I gave up dating, drinking, and secular music. I gave up a comfortable life for that of sacrifices and of loving confrontation in hopes to learn what it means to be a man of God in a society that really doesn’t want to honor God. And, that I did. It’s been an incredible journey these past seven months and I wouldn’t trade a moment of it for anything in the world.
My convictions have changed a ton since I left for SCSL on October 6, 2014. A conviction is defined as a “firmly held belief or opinion.” So, since I left I have chosen not to engage in some things I did before that weren’t necessarily wrong, but could cause another believer to stumble. Long story short, I’m giving up rights to pick up responsibilities.
Finally, I was offered the chance to return to SCSL for a second year. But, unfortunately, I decided not to return. I would have enjoyed it, but my heart wouldn’t have been entirely in it. My heart would have been where it is now, at Destination Church, where it’s been the whole time. I love SCSL and I stand behind the vision, but I know that I am not an integral part of it, but merely a coach or spectator who’ll point others there through the years. That being said, I am where I am meant to be. I am an intern at Destination Church now and I couldn’t be happier. It’s been incredible so far and I can’t wait to see what God does in this season of my life as it prepares me for my eventual vocation in youth ministry.
Well, that’s about all that’s happened in the past several months. It’s been amazing! I’m loving life and I’m loving Jesus more and more each day.

Family isn't something you're born into. It's something you fight to create.
Pastor Darren Hileman (PD)
Lord, not my will, but Yours. Not my desires, but Yours. She seems awesome, and I'm sure she's an incredible girl, and I know You love her and that she's chasing after You, but now is not the time for me to develop feelings. I don't even know her. This is a period of consecration. A period of giving my life completely to you, forsaking all friendships with girls and especially not even thinking about dating anyone during this time. Lord, take away these feelings of my fleshly desires and replace them with desires to know You more. I am not in a season of provision, nor am I entering that season which is another reason why these feelings are invalid and shouldn't be trusted. Whenever Your timing is for me, that's when I'll begin to pursue a friendship and eventually date the girl You bring into my life, but not until then. I want to be in Your will and follow Your plan, not my own desires.
