Haryana to Provide Scholarships for SC, OBC Students in Medical and Engineering Colleges
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini recently announced a groundbreaking initiative aimed at supporting SC (Scheduled Caste) and OBC (Other Backward Classes) students pursuing medical and engineering education. As part of a new scholarship program, all SC and OBC students from Haryana enrolled in government colleges for these courses across the country will now receive full scholarships. This move is part of the state’s ongoing efforts to ensure equal educational opportunities for all, particularly for those from marginalized communities.
The initiative was unveiled by CM Saini during a program organized by the All India Saini Seva Samaj in Gurugram, where he was the chief guest. He highlighted that a dedicated online portal will be set up for students to easily access and apply for these scholarships, making the process more transparent and accessible.
Key Features of the Scholarship Program
The scholarship program will cover the full cost of tuition for SC and OBC students in government medical and engineering colleges across the nation. This step is aimed at alleviating the financial burden on students and ensuring that they can focus on their studies without worrying about funding their education.
In addition, the state government has also made significant changes to the income limits for the creamy layer of Backward Classes. The income threshold for eligibility has been raised to Rs 8 lakh, allowing more families from the Backward Classes to benefit from various government schemes and reservations.
Educational Loans for Low-Income Families
CM Saini also announced a major initiative for students from families earning up to Rs 3 lakh annually. These students will be eligible for educational loans at low-interest rates of 4%, which can be used for both domestic and international studies. Students can avail loans of up to Rs 15 lakh for education within India, and up to Rs 20 lakh for studying abroad. This will significantly ease the financial challenges that many students face while pursuing higher education, especially those aspiring to study overseas.
Local Body Reservations for Backward Class-B
In addition to the scholarship and loan initiatives, CM Saini highlighted that Backward Class-B individuals will now receive reservation in local bodies. This move is aimed at providing greater representation and opportunities for the Backward Class-B community within Haryana's governance structure.
A Step Towards Inclusive Education and Empowerment
CM Saini's announcements come as part of Haryana’s broader efforts to empower the SC and OBC communities, especially in the field of education. By removing financial barriers and creating pathways for higher education, the government aims to give students the tools they need to succeed and contribute to society.
This scholarship initiative is expected to have a profound impact, not only by supporting the educational aspirations of students but also by fostering a more inclusive and equitable society. With these measures in place, the state hopes to nurture a new generation of talented professionals in medical and engineering fields who can contribute to both the state’s and the nation’s growth and development.
Conclusion
The introduction of full scholarships for SC and OBC students, along with the increase in educational loan limits and income thresholds for the creamy layer, marks a significant step forward in making higher education more accessible to all, regardless of financial background. These measures demonstrate Haryana's commitment to empowering its youth, ensuring that every deserving student has the opportunity to succeed. With the establishment of a dedicated portal and the expansion of opportunities for educational loans, the state is paving the way for a more inclusive and prosperous future.
