Sculptured Dance, 2016
Olympic Sculpture Park, Seattle
I don’t have a lot of live performance shots in my library that AREN’T music related, this is one of them. For the past two years Summer At SAM and their concert and performance series at the Olympic Sculpture Park has staged a series of dances related to sculptures in the park. Getting worthwhile photographs of these performances is not exactly ideal, they cover so much ground and there are so many people that it’s pretty much impossible to get decent angles. But this shot is really the exception. During this performance it’s choreographer who I believe is Kate Wallich, walked through the crowd and stood at the very edge of the performance. Of course remember timing and luck is everything, this dance seemingly covered an acre of land and that I just happed to choose this spot to watch the performance is luck. But I love the contrast of the performers wearing white and Wallich wearing black as the focal point of the shot.
