Paul and George scissoring fic when
My best friend aged 19 married our former music teacher aged 51. They had a very successful marriage until he died of cancer.
Okay that’s an objectively wild age gap but I’m glad they had a successful marriage!
This is probably an unwise post, but over the past couple of weeks, inexplicably, @scurator and I got an intense series of comments on one of our Good Omens fics and I made the mistake of engaging, and now I’m just really upset about the incredibly ill-informed and offensive comments on religion, the VERY SHITTY theology and I think tbh the anti-Semitism inherent in the particular condemnation of OT God. Like, m’boff stepped in and was like “one of us is Christian” and they were just like “here’s an overblown description of why that sucks” AND IT IS ON A GOOD OMENS FIC.
I mean this person has just been Wrong quite extensively (about eg Wilde) so I don’t know why I care so much, but also I’m a bit jangled as I’d been assuming they were very young and in fact they could be my age or older from what they’ve said! And they’re just…. out there putting their terrible opinions all over our fic!
Anyway the post about being a popular fic writer made me think of this because this absolutely sucks. And on a Good Omens fic! Can you even imagine going to some hockey RPF to wax lyrical about how great the fic was but then absolutely condemn the playing of all team sports as evil?
What also bothers me is that I was nice!! And while I don’t have the theological background to be like “here is precisely why what you’re saying is inaccurate”, I did do about Wilde!!! The beginning of the thread was about Wilde and I was nice and not just like “you are so incredibly wrong about this”.
Anyway, this was stupid and upsetting.
Have you read yes_2day's series of epics about a post-1980 world in which John lives? I have a lot of problems with them but I still seem to do a reread on a fairly regular basis.
I haven't, no! I've heard of it and I think I might've read the first couple of chapters, but a number of people have pointed out the similarities between my verse and theirs. And I think I want to limit my exposure to theirs while I'm writing my fic, just to ensure I don't accidentally borrow something.
I unironically love Broadstreet. Okay, no, it’s ironic. But it’s so unintentionally funny, Paul looks great, Ringo looks great, it should never have been made. Paul is the worst actor in the history of time. George saying he quite liked it is just the chef’s kiss of it all for me (because he must really have known it was the evidence of Paul’s mental breakdown and felt the need to be a tiny bit protective)
GEORGE :'))) <3
I'm so excited for this movie ngl.
@scurator @drumsalongthemersey oh thank god I didn’t imagine it! I’d love to find context for that - like whether we know if it’s in the bootleg nagras somewhere or not, or what he was referring to
I've just finished reading your "Throw The Wine" and really loved it -- you seem to have got into Beatles fandom since I got out of it, so I was delighted to find your backlog of work after having become reobsessed recently. Especially glad to see the Elton John and Bob Fraser appearances!
Hey!
I feel so honoured that you read Throw the Wine! Fangirl moment! I really love your fics. They were among the first I read when I first started in the Beatles fandom. I'm glad to hear you're getting reobsessed. I detoured into Oasis but still have so many Beatles fics to finish...including an Elton one...
Heyyyyyy I didn't know you were an alumna! I love Oxford so much I came for a BA, then did two more degrees and stayed forever, so I can't resist the opportunity to waffle on about it in fic.
@scurator you're still there? Lol, nice! I did a 4 year stint to get my undergraduate masters and then yeeted myself the fuck outta there. It was not a good place for my mental health! but with the distance of, ah, one and a half decades, I have a lot of nostalgia for the beauty of it, esp at this time of year. It was an Experience at the very least.
