So y'all may remember my rant a couple days ago, about Fandom A and Fandom B.
I'm horrible with keeping names out of things, so I'm just gonna go ahead and tell you (especially since my RP blogs are only in two fandoms anyway so it's not hard to tell) that Fandom A is FMA, and Fandom B is Soul Eater.
My two blogs for Soul Eater are for Spirit Albarn/Death Scythe (scythespirit) and my OC Asgeirr, Spirit's older brother (godspearasgeirr). I haven't been on either of them in like a month. I miss them. but I don't actually want to log into them. Because of the fandom.
I'm growing to hate the fandom. The fandom is keeping me from actually logging into my blogs because I don't want to deal with them. The fandom seems completely populated with 14 year olds or horny 16 year olds. Everything seems to be smut threads or ship threads and if you don't cater to that then you get shunted to the outside and ignored.
Let me give you an example of what I mean. Most people see Spirit as an incurable womanizer, an overly-doting failure of a father, a constant flirt with anything pretty and female (or male, depending on the take), etc. My own take on Spirit is that his flirting is harmless, he's just trying to see people smile, and with girls one of the easiest ways to get them to smile is to compliment them, make them feel pretty and appreciated, etc. He walks the girls from the cabaret home after hours to make sure they get home safe. He didn't actually cheat on his wife (though that doesn't stop accusations, given the way he acts), etc. My Spirit has precious few IC interactions, though I continually get compliments on him.
Asgeirr, by contrast, is a playboy. He flirts. He makes passes at people. He acts like Tony Stark, and he looks like Thor. He's a smartass, he purposefully pitches his voice just so to make Marie or Kami or some other girl melt, he'll try to out-sexy people on Sexual Sunday, etc. This on top of his backstory with Spirit and the fact that he's actually a fairly deep character himself. He acts the way he does because he likes the attention, but once he's in a relationship he's faithful to his partner, much like his brother. He's got a temper, he argues with Spirit, he holds grudges. He's still got a touch of amnesia and isn't sure where he belongs. He hates Stein for what Stein did to Spirit. People love and adore Asgeirr.
Asgeirr is missed. My Spirit is not. Asgeirr flirts with people, participates in Sexual Sunday, etc. My Spirit does not. Now this could just be me being touchy, but when my OC is more appreciated than my take on a canon character, I get slightly hurt. I'm glad people like my OC, don't get me wrong, but Spirit is my baby. Spirit is who I want to play with. But he seems completely unwanted save by a very few people.
One is my dear friend who plays Kami, Spirit's wife. SHE is completely ignored, pretty much, by the vast majority of the fandom we have encountered. To the point that she has been in tears over it.
One is my little sister, who plays Maka. She is pretty much the Maka to my Spirit. She is the only one who actually understands how I play him in regards to her.
One is a friend of mine who got me into the RP side of the fandom and plays Stein to my Spirit. She is my Stein, pretty much, and much of my headcanon for how Spirit and Stein interact was built with her around our muses.
those three are pretty much it. My sister's boyfriend, who plays Soul, is also in the count, but barely because I haven't really played with him. But that's four people out of an entire fucking fandom. That's not cool.
So I keep wavering about returning to the fandom, even with the idea of unfollowing pretty much everybody and starting fresh. Because to be honest, with the overall maturity level that I keep seeing from the fandom, there's no place for me in it. And that makes me sad.
Zatanna sat on the couch in her apartment, a spell book open on her lap as she flipped through the pages carefully. The book was old, though sturdy, one that she had pulled from her father's own library. Her hair was swept back into a messy ponytail, her clothes completely casual - Zatanna was taking a rest day, after being bruised and beaten in an awful battle the day before. Finding an interesting spell, she stopped flipping and read it over, leaning back and tugging at a lock of hair. After a moment, she sat straighter and took a deep breath, reciting the spell... What happened next, she was totally not expecting.
Her apartment disappeared, and a new scenery surrounded her. She gave a yelp as she felt herself falling, and quickly shouted "Etativel!" The spell had been uttered just in time... Zee lifted back into the air, unfolding her legs and standing on the ground as she took a look around. The place seemed gloomy, and definitely wasn't New York. "Where am I?" she wondered aloud, and decided it would be best if she was prepared for anything. "Emit ot nod eht mrofinu!" A puff of smoke, and she stood in her magicians outfit, tugging on a glove.
scythe-master-maka replied to your post: “Hmm? That just makes me want to send you down memory lane, Soul.” He grinned, “You don’t want to remember all the ‘good time’ the looks of disapproval? How people were afraid of you, how they hated your music. I feel like this needs to be done, Soul.”
“Soul, don’t let him do this to you.” Maka breathed softly, wrapping her arms around his shoulders from behind him. “Don’t let him make you feel bad. Smile. Please…?”
He breathed, deep and steady and shrugged back slightly into his Meister's embrace. "....right. ..I won't."
