In America, 1 in 5 fruits and vegetables grown don't fit grocery stores' strict cosmetic standards -- the crooked carrot, the curvy cucumber, the undersized apple -- usually causing them to go to waste.
Imperfect's mission is to find a home for these "ugly" fruits and veggies, starting with our produce delivery subscription in Los Angeles and the Bay. And because they look a little funny, you get the 30-50% off!
Please support Imperfect Produce. They’re doing plenty good.
Fruit positivity!
Just because they’re a little bit out of the norm doesn’t mean they’re not delicious~ Let’s support local businesses and funny fruit in order to be more responsible consumers.
“In Spain, about 7.7 million tonnes of produce – roughly 163kg per person – are thrown away each year, says Barba. In its first year, Espigoladors has managed to recover about 70,000kg of produce.“ - The Guardian
Scarred vegetables are regularly abandoned in the field to save the expense and labour involved in harvest. Or left to rot in a warehouse because of minor blemishes that do not necessarily affect freshness or quality.
When added to the retail waste, it takes the amount of food lost close to half of all produce grown, experts say.
Love this at #PonsonbyCentral, #Auckland. Great way to introduce #kids to #Goal12: #ResponsibleConsumption & #ResponsibleProduction! #SDG12 #Reduce #Reuse #Recycle #GlobalGoals #SDGs
