Ricky’s Dad!

Meet Mark Owens, my OC, Ricky Owen’s father. As seen in his youth and during the events of SDMI.

I first introduced this guy in Chapter 32 of my fanfic, One of Us. And here is one of my early designs for him! I’ve actually had these drawings forever, I just keep not posting them.

But! I am posting them today because I just totally locked in and made some great art of his updated design for One of Us Chapter 32! You should 100% go check it out!

Some notes about Mark (2010):

He wears glasses, I just didn’t draw them (like I said, these drawings are old)

His signature color is a greenish yellow as a homage to his deceased wife and missing son. Ricky wore yellow and Annie wore green.

In 2010, he is a “grumpy old man” to most and rarely participates in Crystal Cove town activities or meetings. Or leave the house for that matter. After years and years of fighting with Crystal Cove’s corrupt and incompetent government, he has simply stopped caring.

He suffers from anxiety and PTSD, and goes through depressive episodes.

Former alcoholic and smoker, quit for Ricky.

He also seldom leaves the house because he gets extremely anxious that Ricky might come home or call the landline while he’s gone.

His hair is grown out to his shoulders for the above reason - he’s hesitant to leave the house for a haircut and doesn’t bother cutting it himself.

He will never move out of his house and would fight it if anyone tried to evict him because he wants Ricky to be able to find his way home.

The local kids (and many of the adults) know him as “Old Man Owens” but for the most part his existence is ignored.

Most of the few who know him as more than the stereotypical grumpy old man think he’s crazy for believing in the curse of Crystal Cove. He is not corrupted by the curse and knows more about it than anyone alive, but never connected with anyone about his discoveries because no one gave him a chance and by the time the new Mystery Incorporated came around, he had given up on outside help.

He is actually a very kind man if you get past his grumpy exterior and give him a chance.

okay time to post something VERY self indulgent. i have been in the scooby-doo: mystery incorporated fandom for ten years. a whole decade. and for that whole decade i've had my oc & her ship and loved them vvv much bc of how Insanely Complicated they are.
