Thoughts on Nagito Komaeda and the World Destroyer ep?

I really liked it! The characters were written not only with nuance but like with actual charm. The tone wasn’t extremely confused, when things got serious they stayed serious even when objectively goofy things were going on, like, it was incredibly charming all around. They fit a lot into 21 minutes and it’s pretty impressive all things considered. I do think that because it’s so packed, it might feel a bit rushed but eh, I think it’s still paced competently.

It’s got a lot of good moments. World Destroyer is pretty fascinating as a concept and although I would’ve liked something more concrete and meaty, the subtext and just regular text about Komaeda’s feelings for Hinata do give me a lot of feelings of my own.

Komaeda literally thinks Hinata’s smile is more painful to remember than dying but he still wants to see Hinata (and Kamukura to an extent) so badly that World Destroyer takes on an appearance that’s a mixture of the two... That sure is something.

I liked it a lot.

Also this weird af Naezono dynamic is really fucking funny to me.

What were your thoughts about sdr2.5? I think I saw a post abt it but i cant find it

I enjoyed seeing the unusual trio Komaeda - Kazuichi - Fuyuhiko but Kazuichi getting a girl is unrealistic 😔

@izuvi I think of it more like the presence of that fanservice scene with Mikan hints to some level of attraction. If you look at what the OVA is in the context of the Danganronpa Universe, it’s essentially Komaeda’s dream he has when he’s in the coma after his “death” in the Neo World Program. And at the end of the OVA, Izuru appears and states that everything that happened within the dream was a reflection of Komaeda’s desires. So, I interpret that as him having some attraction towards Mikan.

As for Chiaki, I take her absence from the OVA as some evidence towards an attraction or liking to her since it may have been too painful to remember her at all. And in SDR2, there was a point in the funhouse where he convinced Kazuichi to go explore with someone else so he could tag around Chiaki for a bit. But honestly, at the end of the day, this is all up to interpretation.

Like I said, if he does have an attraction towards women at all, it’s probably very slight.

For Komaeda, the two most tragic things he couldn’t bear to remember from the NWP were:

-Hinata smiling (possibly at him).

-His death.

While his death is understandable, the fact that Hinata’s smile hurt to remember says a lot. Not even finding out everyone was SHSL Despair seems to be that unbearable, like… I’m not saying it’s kinda gay, but it is.
