“MAKAAAAAAAAA!” He heard himself scream as her grip on him loosened and his weapon form clattered to the ground. His chest constricted and he fought to keep himself from getting sick as he transformed back, catching her bloodied body as the kishin threw her down like she was the smallest of annoyances. This wasn’t supposed to happen! He gripped her tightly, supporting her with one arm and desperately trying to put pressure on the large wound in her chest with the other. The sounds of her struggling for air made his eyes sting. She took short, shallow, gasping breaths. Her blood was everywhere, all over her, all over the ground, all over him.
“Maka.” He said again, his voice soft and broken with desperation. That couldn’t be his voice; that was some stranger’s voice just like this couldn’t be his meister clinging limply to what little life she had left. She looked up at him sadly and a strangled sob escaped his mouth. Those weren’t Maka’s eyes, her eyes were brighter than this, her eyes sparkled more, this wasn’t happening. His hand on her chest relaxed and he argued with it to keep going so she could make it, but his body told him there was no use. Instead, it wrapped around her, joining his other and pulling her up closer to him.
“Soul?” Her choked whisper felt like a dagger in his chest, he dumbly shook his head no. She shouldn’t speak right? She had to save her energy. “Soul. I’m. Sorry.” His whole body shook with despair and he winced his eyes shut gripping her tighter.
“No. No. Stop. Please Maka.” He finally found his voice. She couldn’t be saying goodbye. She couldn’t because what would he do without her? How could he live without her smile or her laugh or her deep green eyes looking into his? Surely if she died he would too right? No. He was fine, he had failed. It had been his duty to protect her with his life and he failed. He opened his eyes again to see the smallest of smiles on her tired and pained face.
“Don’t forget me.” She softly tried to laugh but she was unable to get enough air and it came out as a shaky murmur. His face felt wet and his heart broke a little more with every hard thud against his ribcage.
“Stupid. I couldn’t forget you Maka, I lo-“ His words were cut short by her eyes growing dull and her upper body lulling back lifelessly. He blinked a few times before his mind reeled with the information that she was no longer breathing, that her damaged heart was steady in her chest. He took several deep hyperventilating breaths before he broke down completely.
“Maka? Maka?! Maka!” He shook her gently but he knew his efforts were futile. He pulled her body to his chest and sobbed, the intensity of it forcing him to rock back and forth cradling her pathetically to him. She was gone. He was alone. He searched for the familiar feel of her wavelength but only found his, cold and empty. Empty. That’s what he was now. Nothing else mattered anymore. She was the only important thing in his life and now there was nothing.
He felt something crack in his soul and a familiar cold oozing sensation started filling him. His sobs grew quiet and he wiped a bit of blood off her cheek, swiped away a few stray hairs from her face, gently laid her on the ground, and kissed her forehead, giving her the last bit of love he could. As he arose, his cries transformed into giggles, into laughs, into hysterics. In his soul he smiled, sitting at his piano as the black blood poured into his soul from the ceiling like water in a sinking ship.

WAIT ARE THESE POSTS BECAUSE OF LORD DEATH APPRECIATION WEEK??/ BECAUSE IF IT IS I ALREADY KNOW LORD DEATH DIES I WAS SPOILED OF IT .5 SECONDS AFTER THE CHAPTER CAME OUT
// Sooooo, I was browsing the SE 110 tag you know, getting my nightly dose of heart-wrenching sorrow... and this song came on as my playlist shuffled and omg my ipod is possessed by satan. So here you go...
Staring at the bottom of your glass
Hoping one day you'll make a dream last
But dreams come slow and they go so fast
You see her when you close your eyes
Maybe one day you'll understand why
Everything you touch surely dies
But you only need the light when it's burning low
Only miss the sun when it starts to snow
Only know you love her when you let her go
Only know you've been high when you're feeling low
Only hate the road when you're missin' home
Only know you love her when you let her go
Staring at the ceiling in the dark
Same old empty feeling in your heart
'Cause love comes slow and it goes so fast
Well you see her when you fall asleep
But never to touch and never to keep
'Cause you loved her too much
And you dived too deep
