The aquatic critter of the day is the Giant Tube Worm! They are a chemoautotrophic keystone species that lives near hydrothermal vents and feeds off of the chemicals emitted from them. They are a large food source in vent ecosystems and often support the majority of the food chain in these areas! What neat little critters :)

and so it continues
yes, the millions of tiny legs took forever
ID: Day 2 of Inktober: a mermaid based on a deep sea worm. This shows a mermaid’s face, largely from the top down, so not much of her mouth is visible. Her arms are moved slightly backwards and bent, her hands are outstretched as if clawing at something though still visible from the top down. She has webbing between her fingers and dark claws. Her hair is black and flowing up her back. Where her mermaid tail would begin, the body of a deep sea worm starts. Two thin fin like structure protrude from the waist before leading into a slightly thickened, glowing tail with numerous small legs ending in claws.
The middle portion of the mermaid showcases most of the tail and legs, which curves slightly so that sometimes one side or the other obscures part of the legs protruding from the sides.
The last portion of the tail tapers off and ends in two slightly pronounced claws, closest to what we might think of as a fish’s caudal fin.
