I had a question from a passerby in the very early hours of the morning during this capture in Melbourne that really surprised me: “Why are you taking a photo of this?” The woman seemed genuinely puzzled. She kept seeing folks with cameras along the Yarra River’s banks taking photos of the city bridges and didn’t understand it. What was it she couldn’t see? What could I say to open her mental eye? - The absence of people in the image was important for me at the time, but it would be different today.
