Introducing Seafari Adventures
Seafari Adventures offers exceptional boat trips to see a range of local wildlife including whales, porpoises & sea birds from their base at Easdale, just a short drive from Oban.
Recently, I was invited to join the team on the popular Corrywreckan wildlife tour. Upon meeting Seafari Team member Claire at the pier, I was given a life vest, alongside waterproofs and a pair of binoculars, essentials sorted for this 2-hour adventure!
As the rib pulled up, we met Skipper Steve – who helped us onboard and took us through the safety procedures, before we set off to experience the Gulf of Corryvreckan, home to the world's third largest whirlpool.
We were taken past the slate islands of Fladda, Lunga & Scarba, where we were lucky to catch seals, stags, and a range of birdlife, including the first glimpse of a sea-eagle chick in its nest – Claire was very knowledgeable and offered a lot of useful information not only about the wildlife, but also about the history of the area, and the tradition of the islands.
From here, we headed through the ‘Grey Dogs’ and up to the north end of Jura, where we were taken down the Gulf of Corrywreckan – At this point I started to become thankful of the waterproofs we’d been handed at the start of the journey, but there was some buzz as we sped down the gulf between Scarba & Jura!
At the top of the Gulf, we stopped for a bit to admire the incredible cliff landscapes, before heading back to Easdale Island to warm up with a hot drink from the visitor centre.
Seafari Adventures are Argyll Holidays’ newest Active Family partner – you can enjoy 10% off their tours, simply by flashing your accommodation key.
