oh my god
there are a number of entertaining anecdotes about my Silmarillion Fandom Experience but honestly this one might be a favorite
tiniest, angriest hornet’s nest
seagodofmagic replied to your post: BODY SHAMING i’m fucking BODY SHAMING ADAM DRIVER...
i don’t even need to understand the specific context for this post, adam driver has a weird horse face and star wars fandom is horrible lmao
haha RIGHT? and like, I personally find him an attractive horse, even! but I guess I have to pretend he's classically beautiful or else I'm Mean(tm)

WHAT how do they fasten their clothes???? this is the most ridiculous star wars fact ive ever heard lmao
Velcro, magnetic closures, tying shit, snaps, a lot of the clothes they wear wrap around in ways that close them, and lots of buckles.
Lucas apparently felt rather strongly that in addition to no bras, there are only seamless closures in space. They did a panel about how he did shit like this to the costuming department at the 2015 SW Celebration, let me see if I can find you a link... Ah! Here is the panel, and here is a liveblog of the panel.
You also can, on many collector’s sites and the like, read about how they can tell when a costume brought in for verification is real or not based on if they have a zipper/buttons like a sensible costume would, or velcro like a real Star Wars one would.
It’s one of the most absurd Star Wars facts there is.
It also really makes you realize what a display of wealth and statement about the sheer number of servants she had to dress her everything Padme wore was.

i think i would enjoy it if this kind of fictional utopia ever actually succeeded in portraying a prejudice-free society, but they so often just file the serial numbers off and leave world-building details that in our world ARE the result of sexism/racism etc, which makes it hard to suspend disbelief :/
ha, this is definitely a trap Dragon Age falls into particularly, where it claims that women are considered equal to men and yet there’s...a preponderance of ways in which that is not borne out in game.
My sister everybody

good luck on the interview! i'm really sad i can't go to any of the marches this weekend but i'm trying to tell myself that keeping my angry gay rent paid will do more good in the long run :(
Keeping your angry gay rent paid is its own form of protest, as the evils that be clearly do not want us to succeed and thrive. So please keep on succeeding and thriving, doing so is both a laugh in their face and well... getting your rent paid.
