SEBASTIAN STAN Sean Dougherty Los Angeles Times
Sean Dougherty: “The US War Criminal & Genocidal Government” Can Stop This Genocide At Any Time
— The Key | March 3, 2024 | Interview with Sean Dougherty
Sean Dougherty
We Had An Interview With Sean Dougherty, Green Party Candidate For Congress (CA-19).
1- What is the best solution to end the Gaza war?
The first step is an immediate, unconditional ceasefire. I believe the Israeli government will need to be forced into accepting a ceasefire by cutting off all military aid. After a ceasefire is achieved, a long-term peace will only be possible by ending occupation and apartheid. There are significant challenges with either a one-state or two-state solution and I am not certain what is the best way forward; I believe the best we can do is put the Palestinian people at the center of that process and keep the US out.
2- Considering the 67% of the people support for the ceasefire, how could the media and people convince the politicians against the ceasefire to admit it?
In pressuring my own sitting member of Congress, I am focused on exposing the large campaign donations he is taking from the defense contractors and AIPAC. My campaign has been doing so with statements that link to receipts on fec.gov. We have been sending out these statements in press releases to the local media (radio, television, and newspapers), and they have begun telling their audiences about this conflict of interest. These elected politicians know that the American people are overwhelmingly against this genocide; they need to be convinced they will lose their positions of power if they don't get on the right side.
3- What is the role of the U.S. government in this war?
The US government can stop this genocide at any time. President Reagan was able to stop Israel's bombardment of Beirut with a single phone call to Israel's prime minister. Biden can do the same. If a phone call doesn't work, cutting off military aid would certainly end it.
4- AIPAC plans to spend $100M in the election, how to beat AIPAC?
I have found local legacy media to be very interested in covering stories of campaign contributions by AIPAC to members of congress. I suggest people research if their own representatives are taking AIPAC money (e.g. on fec.gov or opensecrets.org), and provide any evidence to local media. People should reach out to my campaign if they want advice.
