I'm putting these Titaniums on my Burguet spruce. This set was given to by Sean Samimi to try out. Thanks, Sean! This will be the first time I've tried something other than Hannabachs on this guitar, but I freely admit - I really liked the Hannabach Goldins because of the color. Yes, I'm that shallow. The trebles on this new set look almost lavender.

About this time each year, I make the same resolution I always make.

This year I really mean it.

I plan to resume recurring lessons with Sean Samimi (my first true guitar teacher), find some interesting solo stuff to play, and start working on a quartet piece for the next ensemble concert at Pasadena City College. There's talk of doing Boccherini's Introduction et Fandango. I've tried this piece before, and it seemed to get worse with each quartet rehearsal. In the end, it was abandoned. I was guitar 4 back then. This time if it happens, I'll be guitar 1 and can employ some of the nazi-like leadership techniques I developed doing the Noel cycle (with mixed results).

So we'll see. It could be fun. I really hated it when I was guitar 4, but that could be because we totally sucked as a quartet.

But first and foremost, I've got to work up band arrangements of music I don't actually have yet, for 2 guitars, upright bass and fiddle. For Grapes of Wrath. Songs were written for the Steppenwolf production and the theater is scrambling to secure right to the music. But it seems to be taking a long time for them to do that. Rehearsals start January 16.

Did I mention I don't have the music yet?

So 2013 looks like it will be busy, at least through May.

Noon Concerts

There are two noon guitar concerts in Pasadena this week.

Wednesday 11/28 - Sean Samimi performs at Pasadena Presbyterian Church. 585 East Colorado Boulevard Pasadena, CA 91101

Thursday 11/29 - Stephen F. Jones performs an all-Villa Lobos  concert at Pasadena City College's Harbeson Hall.

I'll be attending both concerts.
