Navy Department,

Dec. 30, 1861

Sir,

A recent act of Congress - a copy of which is enclosed - authorizes the Secretary of the Navy to have two hundred medals of honor prepared, with suitable emblems and devices, to be bestowed on such petty officers, seamen and marines as shall most distinguish themselves by their gallantry in action +c during the present war, and appropriates $2000, for the purpose.

In carrying out the object expressed, the Department would be glad to have your assistance. Your experience in

in such matters will enable you to give it such data, with regard to the character of the medal that can be gotten up for the sum appropriated, as will enable it to act understandingly. And if you, or any one connected with the establishment under your charge, can suggest an appropriate design for the medals of honor, the Department would be under obligations. It would also be glad if you would suggest a suitable person to engrave the dies after the design for a medal shall have been adopted.

Uncontactable - Sarah Porter/Abi Borin

A/N: Alt 10: Out of reach for @fluffuly2023​ . 

Sarah Porter had never really meant to fall in love with Abi Borin. She had been delighted, however, when Abi found ways to make them both uncontactable and out of reach for others. They would be allowed to fall in love in peace. Abi, later, would admit she had done it specifically to keep Sarah safe whilst she rested. They would both come together only when Sarah needed to rest, Abi quick to give her a space to rest and feel safe, often watching her as she slept peacefully. Love, quiet as it was, was something they both needed and they would feel safer together.

Taking Breaks - Sarah Porter/Jenny Shepard

A/N: Alt 9: Holiday for @fluffuly2023​

“I don’t really take holidays…”  Sarah’s protest is soft but she knows she can’t exactly refuse Jenny either. “Neither do I… but we both need it and have time.” So they go, they go and Sarah feels herself relax more as she settles beside Jenny near the pool. They talk, quietly, as they rest and Sarah knows she should be happy that Jenny convinced her to take a break. She is, deep down, she’s just not used, yet, to being loved so dearly. Jenny, for her part, surprises Sarah every day by relaxing with her and showing her nothing but gentle and loving support. They spend days on end alone together, resting and healing their bodies and minds. Love comes to form deeper and deeper as they spend time alone, Sarah and Jenny both knowing that they would have to hide their feelings when at work, but the rest of the time they would be allowed to love and love freely.

See the light as it shines on the sea? It's blinding – Abi Borin/Sarah Porter

A/N: Part 2/5 for @flufftober​ ‘s Fluff Monthly for June. 

Sarah doesn’t really know what leads her here, to the ocean. She’s used to working of course, working with the Navy, working with NCIS, but she’s never really understood the pull of the ocean, the pull of the sea. Then she sees her. Abi Borin. CGIS through and through, a woman destined to share her life on land and sea. Abi swims easily, dives easily into the waves and seems almost to become a mermaid, contented most when she can swim. Sarah is not so sure, still, when Abi beckons her in, she risks it, strips down to simple swimwear she had worn under a wrap dress and follows Abi into the water, smiling when Abi pulls her closer. She doesn’t have to trust the sea to trust Abi.

Protective Detail - Abi Borin/Sarah Porter

^ GIFS made for me by my beloved @notsosecretlyalesbian​   “C’mere…” Abi’s voice is soft even as she leads Sarah across to the bed, gently peeling away layers of clothing for her before nudging her on the bed, a back rub had put Sarah at ease but Abi can see she’s not ready to sleep just yet. “Settle for me.” She’s over Sarah in seconds, gently massaging her way down a tense back and smiling when Sarah shudders and relaxes. She’s been tense for so long that she’s sore, Abi can see that and her touch softens as she shifts motions, rubbing warm hands over relaxing muscles. “Good girl, just relax. I’ve got you now.” Later, much later, Sarah will cry as she tells Abi what happened, how close she came to losing her daughter, Abi rubbing her back all over again and promising to keep them both safe.

A Place To Rest Her Head - Alex Blake/Sarah Porter

A/N: Part 2/4 for @fluffbruary​ in May.

A sigh echoes even as the door clicks shut and Alex smiles, shifting onto the bed and resting a pillow in her lap for Sarah when she comes in. Sarah shuffles around the room to change and prepare for bed, curling herself on the bed and letting her head rest on the pillow in Alex’s lap, a soft sigh of contentment escaping her when Alex’s fingers curl through her hair. “Long day?” “Mmm. Getting really tired of the meetings.” Sarah murmurs, relaxing slowly under Alex’s soft caresses, finding peace in the gentleness of Alex’s touch even when she knows hard work will always be worth it as long as she gets to come home to Alex and her kindness.
