Goshen, Indiana's La República is a trio of Colombian musicians with a passion for 60's rock and roll. They came by the Second Kitchen and recorded a memorable session filled with loud guitars, Beatles-inspired lyrics, and a vintage sound. Their latest album, Aqui Estamos (Here We Are) is currently available to stream on Spotify. Look out for these guys as they plan to move to Mexico City, the mecca of latin rock, in the coming year!

We were thrilled to host Bloomington singer-songwriter Gloria Bangiola a few weeks back for not only our first session of 2014 but also our first session in a new kitchen. We will be using this space for smaller, one- or two-piece acoustic acts, and an additional space for larger and louder groups. 

Gloria released her first full-length album in January of 2013, called Past the Willow and the Well. She is currently working on her second album, which is scheduled to be released in the fall of 2014. Her music is folky and beautiful, and features finger-picking guitar styles and accompanying voice.

The boys of Dirt Holler visited us for our last recording in the original second kitchen over the summer. It was a session of finalities, as it was one of their last performances as well. These guys always know how to have a good time and we had a blast hanging out and filming with them.

One of the last sessions recorded in the original Second Kitchen was with these talented garage rockers from St. Louis. The Brainstems are a reckless four-piece whose twangy guitars, upbeat rhythms, and gritty vocals remind us of our garage and punk rock favorites from the 60s.

We had our first Reactor Core session today with La República, a fantastic Latin Rock band from South Bend, IN. Be on the lookout for their session and some live shows in the Bloomington area!

Our session with Peter Oren, A.K.A. Swales, is now live! This is the first of 3 songs he performed for us over this past summer. 

Peter is a former IU student who's since moved on to much more exciting things, taking on songwriting as a full-time endeavor. His career as a solo artist has evolved throughout the years and now takes on a very important role in his life. Says Peter:

Songwriting has always been a creative outlet that helps me understand myself and the world around me. Only over the past year have my aspirations grown, like a chin lifting from the path and my feet to the horizon beyond, and I find myself more interested in building sounds to support the lyrical content, which has been most of my focus. 

A month ago I returned to Bloomington from three months on the west coast. I wrote new tunes on the road, and already I'm about ready to move on from the songs we recorded in the second kitchen this summer. I'm anticipating Swales's first studio recordings to take shape in early 2014. 

Thanks to our friend Peter stopping by and sharing his time with us in the kitchen! We are very excited to see his career in music progress in the coming years.
