For example, some housing authorities only allow residents of that particular city to apply. Other PHA's will accept applications from different cities or states. Your local PHA can allow you to complete a Section 8 application form and help you calculate how much you need to budget for each month. Say, for example, your monthly income is $1,000. You'd pay $300, even if the rent of the unit is $1,000. The maximum voucher issued by the PHA is $2,200 per month.
