In 2002, Ghana passed the Fisheries Act (Act 625) into Law. Section 84 of the Act details the do’s, don’ts and the penalties under the “close season.” The Close Season is a period where fishing is banned on Ghanaian waters. This is to allow the fingerlings to grow into fishes. It’s a fallow period for fishing. People caught fishing during this period will be charged a fine of $500,000 and not more than $2 million in respect of a local industrial or semi-industrial fishing vessel or a foreign fishing vessel; or... this year’s Close Season commenced on May 15 and it will last till June 15. This decision by the government was met by agitation from some fisherfolk. Some said they needed to go fishing to get some fish for the upcoming Homowo Festival. So there’s the possibility that the prices of fish might go up a bit during this period. . . 📷: Nana Osei - 2019 . . #La #accra #ghana #africa #fishing #fisherfolk #law #closeseason #section84 #government #waters #prices #streetstyle #streetphotography #ashantiimmigrant #act #everydayafrica #dynamicafrica #visiterlafrique #accrawedey #vessels (at Accra, Ghana) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bx98w7CpP_Y/?igshid=t0eunff3gj8z
