SECTION FIVE: SOURCING MEDIA & MOOD-BOARD

Below are some images that I found to closely represent some of the elements that I want to create further on within this project. I used Tumblr & Pinterest to gather inspiration:

When sourcing media, I had to use creative commons music so that it would be industry standard. I used websites like:

creativecommons.org

Soundcloud 

freemusicarchive.org

I chose a mix of music that represented me or the mood that I wanted to convey through that particular part of the video. I mainly used Soundcloud for music as it was easier to find music that I liked and had longer durations. The mixes on FMA were a lot shorter. 

For visuals, I planned to film footage that I could use as an overlay, but as I went along I found it more compelling to use footage from past holidays and times in my life that I had shared with people in my life. Showing the different compounds or groups that I belonged to, showing carefree fun moments.

This is the page plan for Issue 3, I shared this with my designers when collaborating. The numbers in brackets are the amount of pages to be used for each article.

As the design progressed, some articles could have more or less pages as when the document was being designed, it was easier to see how many pages were being used and for what.

This screenshot represents a small part of the research I undertook to see what other cake websites are like and what kind of colours they featured. I also tried to see what sort of layout they use to show their products and services. I tried to add all these elements to the changes I would make to the clients existing website.

Organising My Design Team

In order to arrange meetings, share pictures and ideas to the whole group (including the client) I set up a closed group page. This was especially helpful when broadcasting important information to the whole group that they might want to check up on later. A Facebook chat would have been less effective for this, although the group does enable you to message everyone at once.

I then went and looked at other free magazines distributed around the University campus. Mayhem was the name of this particular one, the spread is very similar to the last edition of Pugwash (see section two) and won’t be very good at giving Pugwash magazine a more competitive advantage over this one.

I hope to make my design more bold and interesting than these, however the large images are very pleasing on the eye, and bold bright titles seem to have a good effect.

Sourcing The Media

After using the free trials of each of the adobe packages to my advantage, I bought the student package at £15.49 per month. This will not be included in the costing for the project the programmes are needed for other aspects of my university course, and so would have been purchased anyway.
