SECTION TWO: MEETING THE CLIENT &Ā FIRST AND SECOND LEVEL QUESTIONNAIRES (1.2)
To kickstart the project, I first have to understand what the expectation & needs of my client are. As this is a self initiated project, I will be my own client. This stage gives me a chance to narrow down ideas and create a clear plan for what is expected of me & my client. It also gives me the ability to identify any skills gap & limitations to my idea or project, identifying them at this stage my allow me to make changes that wonāt majorly effect my plan.
Below are my first set of questions, this is a general overview of what is expected:
1. Have you used indesign before?
Not in depth, no. Iāve used it briefly on a previous project but only on surface level. It didnāt allow me to experience all the software has to offer and never to this scale.Ā
Although I will be teaching myself how to use it in depth through a wide range of resources such as lynda.com, youtube & infographics on Pinterest.Ā
2. Have you hosted an event before?
Not independently, Iāve worked within one element of an event to assist, so this will be a big learning curve for me but I definitely think itās something I would love to do in the future. Event planning is some that brings together a lot creative and management attributes so this will help prepare me for that in the later future.
3. What are the main aims of the video installation event?
I want the Compounds project to touch people through its digital and cognitive elements -- the music, visuals & spoken word. The aim is to open them up to the possibilities that someone can compartmentalise themselves into one box but can belong and identify with a range of different groups or personalities or in this case - Compounds. Compounds is a word we use for Home back in Africa but itās also used in the science world for a mixture of more than 2 elements.
4. Who is your target audience?Ā
There is no particular target audience in mind as I believe that spoken word, poets and speech is on the rise & that people may benefits for learning something new especially with the rise of social media, people seem to becoming less connected and compassionate to othersĀ & their identities, styles, aesthetics etc; hopefully this might spark a new thought in their heads.
In the next set of questions it will allow go into depth & detail about other aspects of the project, this is where iāll be able to identity any faults or limitations.Ā
Below are my second and final tier of questions:
1. What examples of visual language, editing style & content can you give to summarise your ideal final piece (branding, format, colours & fonts etc)?
San serif secondary fonts & accent primary fontsĀ
Clashing neutrals & bright coloursĀ Ā
*Look to section 6 for further mood board elements
2. About the event, do you have a location in mind, duration & a contingency plan?
In terms of any specifics for the event, I donāt have a location in mind. I understand that securing a location & getting people to attend is a difficult task due to external factors, so in a case that I cannot do a physical event; I would want to do a virtual experience that would work similarly to the physical event. The duration of the event is dependant on whether its physical or digital -- flexible.
This would consist of choosing a select amount of people, emailing them a private link to the film linked through Youtube, along with a readme/program to understand what the project is about and its aim & recommending them to pass it on if it struck a nerve.
3. In terms of the additionalĀ media, do you have a format in mind?Ā
I would like to include a small A4/5 booklet to introduce the project, what its about, and how to give feedback afterwards. I was thinking a landscape format to correlate with landscapes and how compounds to me mean home.
4. What elements can be altered if anything changes course?
5. How long would you like the written piece & short film?
I would like for the duration of the short film to be around 3 - 5 mins, it allows to apply the themes that I would like & for the piece to make a lasting impact on my audience; hopefully leaving them with a good lasting thought.
6. What themes do you want to come across within the project?
Meaningful connections through shared common interests
Introduction & acceptance to new culturesĀ
As this is a one time event, the detail needed is a lot but by collecting this information hopefully I can depict any resources that may be needed to complete the task.
