Sectoring
Sectoring, in the most broad sense, is the principle of limiting your opponents options. Thinking of it in this way, it is a strategic principle for every part of life, from conversation to large-scale warfare. You leave your opponent with choices, all of which you’ve predicted and prepared to counter. This is much easier to learn through experience than reading. For example, pinning an opponent’s elbow to his hip, neutralizing that arm, is a form of sectoring, because it is very likely they will panic and try to rotate and throw their other arm at you. Through sparring and studying natural human reactions you can maneuver people into positions in which you maintain the advantage through knowing what they can and will do next. By the same mindset, you can maneuver people in arguments and conversation by using your words in way that you’ve already predicted their effects and likely responses the opponent will give. This is a concept that you should keep in mind from the beginning, because it absolutely applies as a life skill.
