THE SECTORS OF TRANQUILITY
Pace et prosperitate omnes
Peace and prosperity for all
The Sectors of Tranquility are humanity's final attempt at civilization. Hundreds of years ago the world fell to anarchy after countries broke apart and chaos controlled everything. After decades of aimless wandering people gathered together and repaired abandoned cities. They foraged for teachings from the forgotten times. Electricity was restored. The luxuries from the past slowly returned as society improved. Soon, wireless communications were reanimated. People began searching for signals from around the world, and they were shocked to find answers.
These societies dotted around the earth decided to join together in an international community called the Sectors of Tranquility. Through time and work the once damaged metropolises had been reformed into something more glorious than the past had ever been able to create. Governments were installed. Technology and medicine skyrocketed. Surrounded by wilderness and dilapidated highways, cities, and communities, a Sector of Tranquility was an oasis in a lost, war-torn world injured by mistakes of the past.
The first generation of the Sectors was a time of trial and error. The second generation was more comfortable, and by the third, everything seemed to be perfect. The Placebo series is set in the forth generation of the Sectors of Tranquility, in Sector Three.
LIST OF THE SECTORS
Sector One -- Africa
Sector Two -- Australia
Sector Three -- North America
Sector Four -- Europe
Sector Five -- Asia
Sector Six -- South America
Not all of humanity lives within the Sectors. Some Sectors are ringed by small communities that get along with the neighboring mammoth megalopolis. Some Sectors and the alternate communities have strained relationships. Sector Three is mainly troubled by a ramshackle city called Haven which houses refugees from the Red Revolution, purges, and those who do not agree with the government, among other aristocrats. There is also a nomadic community called Artemis's Children that travels around the forests surrounding Sector Three. They view nature as sacred and damaged and their main goal is to restore nature to its former flourishing beauty. They believe that modern times have ruined nature and thus adopt ancient ways of dress, life, law, and spirituality.
While distantly connected, the Sectors of Tranquility are independent from each other and have their own systems of government, though all of them are democracies. Communication between civilians of different Sectors is rare, and rarely do people travel from one Sector to another, as long term transportation is a terrifying topic.
Resources are incredibly depleted and there are tensions between Sectors over the sharing of resources, mainly oil.
Sectors have their own types of law enforcement in order to keep peace, but none of the Sectors have any armies--or if they do, it is kept secret.
The Sectors of Tranquility's official seal is a picture of the Earth wrapped in olive branches. This picture is bordered by a circle with the phrase Pace et prosperitate omnes, which is Latin for "peace and prosperity for all". This seal is found on all official government buildings, papers, equipment, etc, and the Earth is usually replaced with the number of the given Sector.
