BYOD vs CYOD: Bring or Choose Your Own Device?

I have always been a BlackBerry device holder, and really don't foresee myself changing anytime soon. Although many of the competing mobile companies have done a better job with security features, I still feel they lack the tight security BlackBerry offers, like the encrypted connection to banking and shopping sites, the NFC technology, in addition to the BlackBerry Smart Card Reader (permits you to prove your identity to your BlackBerry smartphone or computer)
My personal opinion to appease both sides, is to have IT departments pre-select devices that meet business needs, but also offer a secure solution. Note: as the article below discusses, it is the role of the IT department to still manage best practices when employee's want to use unapproved apps.
