As you may know, the online world has been rocking from two salvos fired at it.

The first barrage was of DDos attacks - so trying to shut down, to swamp the servers, so they crash from the shear amount of work it was made to do....

Annoying for us users, perhaps.

The second barrage was much worse, especially if you run your own websites.

If the big boys were attacked and could not cope, how will we fare? We do not have the budget to match their resources, surely?

Maybe, Because The attack was Different, for Us.

They did not want to shut us down, no, indeed, they wanted OUR servers to use...but for what?

Bad things, that is for sure... Worse, more widespread DDos attacks to cause even wider disturbances of the internet as a whole? Or just trying to spread malware, to con people to "buy" their anti-virus solutions, to clear out "that virus" they claim you have.... (not the actual one you have, a fake one. The con is to get you to pay so you have a system that looks clean. And of course, they can flick the switch anytime again; give it a different "fake virus" warning, from a different company.... And gouge you again...)

Also, back to our problem with the hackers...They might delete our sites.... All of it, even the database!

And no backup and it could all be gone.
