As you may know, I use the headWay Themes, Drag and drop theme. I like the theme as, with the simplicity of the Drag and drop system, I can build a site to look pretty much like I want it to, not what teh developer likes. And, I can round the corners of just about everything.... if you hadn't noticed! I can also make different templates with it, so two pages can be different, or, as I am using it, two categories can be different. So, it was with interest that I found this new plugin. Yep, another Sales page, optin page thingo - as if we don't have enough.... yet, the angle is what grabbed me.... as you will see if this email I had a few days back.......

Now, here is the thing..... I have a blog post, which was Wlecome To Jon Barry's Comms Check..... And while that has been editted to say Let's Talk.... the url was still http://bit.ly/Y9QKqC And of course, this was in the search engines.... to just change it would result in the link not working. Annoying for anyone using the link, very annoying for me, as I do not like having broken stuff, and worse, a bad link which the search engines will pick up, and it is a negative mark I could do without! So what to do.... leave it, causing confusion? Change it, and take the pain from the search engines until they remove the dead link, and re[lace with the right link? No, I did not like the idea of that.... So I had a quick flash.... Many of us use a plugin, that has a free version too, that allows us to take an ugly link, maybe an affiliate link too, and make it "pretty" (If you have this plugin, you already know what it is!) So using this plugin, I tool the dead, so now "ugly" url of http://bit.ly/Y9QKqC and used the plugin to forward any requests for this page to http://bit.ly/Y9QKqE So now I have both links working, and over time the search engines will see what is happening and fix the records. Even if they do not, all is still good! Now, you may see many plugins that automatically "fix" 301's. which simply means the website server could not find, and show the visitor the page for which they requested - in this case, my welcome page.
