The cast of tonight’s Seduction Feroce Burlesque show in Oakland
Seduction Feroce - a postscript
last night, emotional and exhausted post a particularly intense acupuncture, i hoisted up the squeezebox and put on the lipstick armor to go perform at a 'new to me' event in Oakland's Uptown District. From the moment I got there I was excited. The stage manager told me that we had the upstairs as a green room. The genders and styles of the performers once I got up there were fascinating and variant (and deviant) and the crowd down on the floor felt electric, excited, and mixed though heavy on the queer. The show itself was epic and good. The sort of burlesque / variety night that reminded me of the club in cabaret, of what things in underground Berlin (and SF for that matter) in the 20's and 30's have been rumored to be like. There was so much awesome and edgy performance. I laughed really hard. When it was my turn on the mic - I played really well, pumped up all three of my bands and when I was done got a ton of love from the family of performers and from the crowd. I felt so accepted right away. And I even got a high five / you did great from Elvis Herselvis who just happened to be in the crown.
Who knew that this was a regular monthly thing happening right there at the Era Art Bar that I've been meaning to check out anyway. The wife and I had a brilliant freaking time. Huzzah.
