Have you ever seen dust dancing in sunbeams?
How it glitters like flecks of gold?
Maybe that is the true alchemy.
Not changing what something is, but seeing it in a new light.
~ LE Bowman, "Shapeshifter" (Button Poetry, March 4, 2025) (via Jules of Nature)
Humans have habits ingrained in them. Repeating an action over and over again, the action gets wired into the brain and hence becomes a habit. They go in auto pilot mode when that action needs to be done.
But sometimes one deliberately start watching their actions rather than relying on the habitual actions, they can start seeing things a bit differently which does adds a lot of value in our lives.
Hence Hoomans , Sometimes it’s good to see things in our lives differently.
Over the last 5 years, working on my art has evolved into social consciousness and identity politics. I am interested in ways to help other people, along with myself, see differently. This act of seeing can be a tool for understanding ways of culture and becoming more humane. I enjoy fusing my art experience with philosophies, feminist and Queer theory discourses. The fusion of ideas from art history and cultural studies surges my passion for making performance art and utilizing photo/video documentations. In the spare time, I'm usually watching the-so-called liberal news networks or viewing youtube clips that some how keeps us all entrenched. It never fails, I discover new material to discuss with friends, colleagues or in my work.

Look closer & you’ll see the world differently, everyday!
What is important is the way you look at things, not the way things look - Hady Sy
Following last weeks note on how to kick your ‘creativity funk’, we fished out some creativity prompters that have helped us in the past. Then we came up with the cool idea to share some of them with you on a weekly basis. The idea of a ‘creativity prompter series’ is based on the premise that good ideas don’t just appear by themselves or through spontaneous Eureka moments during a relaxing hot Sunday afternoon bath: ideas need to be enticed out with consistent moments of inspiration and motivation.
With this series of creativity prompters we aim to motivate you to systematically build into your day-to-day routine, moments of play, inspiration and reflection that will help you stretch your imagination, shift your lens which can lead you to discover more, ask more questions and connect the seemingly unconnected more readily.
Our perception of things can be altered simply by changing the angle we choose to look at it - like magnifying an object with a pair of binoculars. Creativity arises from our ability to see things from many different angles.
Here are some tips for engaging in your creativity explorations as suggested by Keri Smith in ‘How to be an explorer of the world’
Use all of your senses and perspectives to ‘see’: sight, sound, smell, touch, taste, movement, texture, function, symbol, language (definition, words) subjectively, objectively comparisons, contrast, negative space, symmetrically, colour, in parts, anecdotally, historically, artistically, scientifically, metaphysically, contextually, culturally, politically, ritualistically, aesthetically, micro, macro, in multiple, alone, 3D, abstractedly, mythically, directionally, linearly, as a habit, as a device, as a sign, lightheartedly.
What you’ll need to take along on your explorations
You won't need any fancy materials or apparatus; use whatever you have. All you really need is your idea notebook and pencils. Neither will you need to engage in any scientific methodology. Use simple methods: writing, sketching, collecting objects, pressing, tracing, plasticine (clay type substance), recording (sounds or conversations) and printmaking using objects. With your smartphones and tablets you can make a movie (perhaps at an unusual angle), take photos, record sounds etc.
What 3 things you definitely need to bring along on your mini creativity explorations
Trust in your imagination; it’s the source of all true journeys
Curiosity - look closer, for things are not always what they seem
Be open - anything can happen!
Hey, if you've enjoyed this post and you know at least one person who could benefit from reading it, please pass it along. Thanks in advance!
