Dear world of larger-scale seed savers: how do you thresh radish seed? I've used a Vitamix on the lowest setting, which doesn't hardly nick any seed (some though), but I'd rather not use the Vitamix for seed processing on this level. My basic blender does nick seeds on the lowest setting. Here I am pushing the dried pods against a screen, which works great (especially when I'm not also filming and can put more pressure on) - but it is still a lot of slow work. Stomping doesn't do a good enough job. The winnowing machine I built has winnowing covered. It's the threshing that takes so much time! The pods don't really shatter - they suction around the seed like styrofoam. We can't sit there and crack open one pod at a time. Please share your experience making this more efficient with radish. Would love to also hear about threshing lettuce (we currently hand-thresh). Is there an edfective machine we can make or buy? Or a lower tech solution? Please tag seed farmers who might know. #radishseed #lettuceseed #thresh #threshingseed #seedthreshing #threshing #seedfarm #seedfarmer #seedfarming #seedsaving
