“So, I was thinking... Maybe we should do something.” He wasn’t sure what. He figured it might be a nice change of pace for him and Steph to actually go out and try to forget all this bullshit.

Evan knew she had been hurt way too much. She had suffered way more than she should have. More than anyone should have. She deserved so much more than she got. And honestly, he didn’t care about the consequences that came with any of that. He wasn’t scared of getting hurt by her or because of her. They had a connection that he knew she couldn’t fucking deny.
But since he had gotten to know her, he enjoyed spending time with her more than anything. Even just sharing space silently. It was pretty fucking cliched honestly. He would have laughed at the idea of that. Him being... In love? Maybe.
“Steph...” He doesn’t really know what to say. “I am not gonna disappear or anything. We can get through this, together? Right? I want to...” Protect you. “I know you’ve lost people. I know...” Was he being selfish? Probably. He wanted her to be happy. Make her smile and laugh. She was so fucking pretty when she laughed.
“Stephanie... I’ll fight whatever the hell I have to. I just want you to be okay. I want you to stay with me...”

It isn’t even like waking up. It’s like you blink, and suddenly you’re alive again. It’s like your consciousness just got slammed back into your skull. For a moment, nothing made sense. It felt like he had just woken up after a bender. His head hurt, his stomach was tied in knots, and worst of all he couldn’t remember where he had been prior to this exact moment.
Evan was on the couch of... This room. He wasn’t even sure where he was. He sat up quickly, the familiar feeling of utter panic taking over him. He couldn’t seem to get enough air into his lungs. He reminded himself to keep it together. He wasn’t one to lose his cool, but this was seriously fucked up.
He turned his head again and again, frantically looking at the room. He was trying to remember what he had been doing. He was so caught up in the raw fear and his own thoughts he didn’t even notice it.
It being the balled up paper in his hand. He took a deep breath. Stay calm... Stay calm... The mantra continued in his head as if it could save him from the terror alone. With two shaking hands, he began to fix the paper. It was damaged from being crumpled, but the words were very clear. The message was written in a rather large font. Handwriting that seemed too familiar. In fact, all of this seemed too familiar. Deja vu, or whatever it was called. The note read:
"DON'T FORGET YOUR GIFT! IT'S DOWN IN THE BASEMENT ( WATCH OUT FOR SPIDERS! )" with a small drawing of a rabbit on it.
“Oh shit...” He mumbled. And suddenly his ‘calming’ mantra was replaced. Because he could remember this note. Oh fuck, he remembered it. He remembered the feeling of the pencil between his fingers. He remembered it.
His new mantra repeated. ‘No. No. No. No.’ quickly. And he wasn’t even sure if the words were actually leaking from his lips. He hurried to the kitchen and pulled open a drawer. Nothing. Another. Nothing useful. Finally the next had a large steak knife in it. Even if it wouldn’t do much against whatever was down there... He felt better with it in his hand.
Just as he reached the door to the basement, it hit him again. He knew this place. This door. These stairs. The memory of her. Oh god. He could remember her screaming. Even through unclear and hazy flashbacks he couldn’t make out, he felt like throwing up. He was more afraid than he’d ever been. What if she’s dead? What if she’s shredded to pieces or... Worse. He can’t even picture a ‘worse’ but he knows there has to be one.
He stood on the stairs in the dark for a moment, knife in hand, listening. “Steph...?” His voice came out more like a whisper. He was scared. Scared to hear nothing in return. Scared of silence. He took slow steps down. One at a time. He could hear his heartbeat so loud that it sounded like it should be shaking the fucking walls.
He saw something. It’s in the basement, in the dark. He couldn’t make out details but he knew. He felt like crying already. It was her. She was dead, wasn’t she? The first two steps once he gets off the stairs are slow but then he ran to her and dropped down to her curled up form on the ground.
“Steph... Oh god... Steph...” He didn’t want to look. In fact, it smelled like metal down here. Like blood. He put a hand on her shoulder gently to turn her toward him, but she felt warm. That was good, right?
“Steph... Holy shit... Just....” He doesn’t want to move her if she’s hurt. He doesn’t want to think about this. He doesn’t want to remember, does he?

i. Halo (Remember those walls I built? Well, baby they're tumbling down, And they didn't even put up a fight. They didn't even make a sound I found a way to let you in. But, I never really had a doubt. Standing in the light of your halo. I got my angel now) ii. Lullaby (It's those pills that you don't need to take, medicating perfection, now that's a mistake. I know that you're spent, just let me sing you to sleep. It's your finger and how I'm wrapped around it. It's your grace and how it keeps me grounded.I know that you're weak, just let me sing you to sleep.) iii. Honeythief (When I'm all in a spin, full of cynicism. You remind me of just how perfect you are. When I'm at my wit’s end and I'm losing my head. You remind me of just how lucky I am) iv. Ever After (Don't you move Can't you stay where you are, just for now? I could be your perfect disaster. You could be my ever after. You could be my ever after, after all I could be your perfect disaster. You could be my ever after) v. Heaven In Hiding ( Sittin' on the concrete in your basement. But I don't have no time for conversation. Said this ain't what you usually do. And a girl like me is new for you. And I can tell you mean it cause you're shakin') vi. Haunted (I'm haunted; By the lies that I have loathed. I'm haunted. I'm haunted. By the hallways in this tiny room, the echoes there of me and you, the voices that are carrying this tune.) vii. Stray (Swore to never ever leave you; To never let you out of my hands. Nothing here could ever change this. A promise til the living end. I swore I'd never stray from you.) viii. Amazing (Can you pretend I’m amazing? I can pretend I’m amazing. Can you pretend I’m amazing, instead of what we both know.)
‘ NOW , you stay h e r e , and me and betty will go hide ! ’ the doll’s head almost seemed to nod as he hopped up and down , before bolting back into the woods with a bounce in his step .

STATIC flickered between channels. Same old, same old lazy boring shit they crammed into late night television. Shitty sitcoms that never made it past two seasons. Ready to turn in, he heard it. Like an infiltration of sound, she came. He could make out the weight of her footballs across the floor before she even made it within hearing range of a human.
“Hey, you shouldn’t be up.” How dreadfully easy was it to slip into pretty boy’s tone. To ( feign ) a concerned tone of a ‘soon to be’ father twisting his lips into a frown at ‘his’ lover. How fucking pathetic.
