This is the season when a lot of what is blooming are what one of my books refer to as DYCs, Damned Yellow Composites. Presumably they are damned because there’s so many different kinds that look awfully similar. It is tricky to nail down a spp. I think I ID’d this one last year as Bahia dissecta or Ragleaf Bahia. And looking through the better books I have this year, I think I have to agree with myself. These are all over the place, and keep reminding me that, though the days are getting dramatically shorter, and winter is definitely coming, we still have some wonderfully nice days left to enjoy. I think these guys are Rudbeckia laciniata or Cutleaf Coneflower. My bug books aren’t good enough to ID the red bug infestation on the stems or the little worm in the disk flower.
