Sega VR: An extraordinary 1990s journey

Virtual reality is all the rage these days with tech giants and innovative startups alike battling for market shares. However, did you know that SEGA, the legendary video game developer and publisher, was a consumer VR pioneer in the early 1990′s?

First announced in 1991, SEGA had huge ambitions for the SEGA VR headset (which was meant to be a hardware add-on for the SEGA Genesis - also known as SEGA Megadrive in Japan and Europe). However, development suffered many setbacks and the console version was never released (an arcade rendition was launched in 1993).
