Norwegian pop singer Tone Damli releases her first EP Heartkill
Tone Damli is a Norwegian origin singer, who was the runner-up in the Norwegian version of Idol back in 2005. In 2009 she participated in the Norwegian preselection of the Eurovision Song Contest with the song Butterflies, which became second after Alexander Rybak’s Fairytale.Nevertheless this song was a massive hit in Norway and also in the US. Having released already six successful albums, Tone added her very first EP titled Heartkill to the list.
The EP Heartkill consists of five previously released singles. It all begins with the latestsingle, album titled Heartkill. It isnot as strong track as you would expect from Tone. Heartkill is a usual pop tune without any catchy part. I wouldn’tsay it’s a bad song, but it is not amazing either. Definitely not as amazing as the next track Winner of a Losing Game. It’s the only song that has reached to number one position in Tone’s ten year long career. Winner of a Losing Game is a powerful ballad from the very first note. It has really deep lyrics with supporting live instruments. In the second part of the song there has been added some additional voices which gives extra strenght to the whole melody. It is being followed by uptempo and more cheerful track Perfect World. That’s what Tone’s fans expect to hear. Pop tune with rhythmical melody and catchy refrain. Next up is Smash what is very radio friendly track. It has the loud refrain which makes you turn up the volume even more and just dance along. The final song is called Hello Goodbye and it is a duet with Swedish pop star Erik Segerstedt. This track also competed in the Swedish preselection of the Eurovision Song Contest back in 2013. The song itself is a midtempo love song, which might not catch the listeners attention right away. But the chemistry between the two (in case you are watching live performance) can be totally felt and the voices suit together just perfectly. This song grows in you after each listening.
To conclude, it was great idea to release the EP if there wasn’t enough material to release the whole album, because some of the tracks had already found their way to listeners heart. And even though there are only 5 tracks you could hear really different sounds while listening to this EP Heartkill.
My favourites are the beautiful Winner of a Losing Game and the duet with Erik Hello Goodbye.
