haha oh jesus ummm i don’t really stick to any genre, so lately it’s been a mix of anime ost tracks, m.i.a., amy winehouse, balkan beat box, a little regina spektor, and the occasional popular radio hit (i.e. “pompeii” by bastille); uh, with instrumental stuff thrown in for when i’m in the subway and need something calming; also perennial faves like epik high and clazziquai project

hmm…i’ve been lucky enough not to have dealt with it very much thus far (knock on wood jfc), so that certainly influences my attitude toward it. having said that, i try to keep in mind that it is natural and egalitarian/indiscriminate (i mean mortality itself, not the privileges/conditions surrounding individual lives…) and therefore does not have to be something to mourn. and here’s where i anticipate accusations of heartlessness, because of course we mourn — but why? what are we mourning? i think most people view death as loss, as lives being taken from us, as though they were implicitly ours to keep. i think we wish for eternity, even though we know it’s unattainable, and that’s what i try to change in my own mindset: we are finite, as we ought to be. i think to ask otherwise would be arrogant.

hey this is like kind of a heads up but i wanted to let u know that it's like messed up to use oppa,noona or other korean words that have cultural significance as an accessory. also that the "ayy gull" and anything else that runs into making fun of idols' english is messed up. but yeah this is kinda a heads up/fyi/wvr etc. i learned about this kinda thing recently and i wanted to let u know too ;;

thank you but i will stop once they stop exploiting black/african culture for pure entertainment. ill stop using the words oppa and noona the day i stop hearing asian people saying nigga/homie/shawty/ratchet/etc to their friends behind my back. 

I personally, do not believe in policing people unless i myself am blameless. this cultural appropriation shit has gone too far like it literally makes no sense anymore cuz when u come to think of it EVERYONE EVERyWHERE is appropriating some type of culture WHICH ISNT THEIRS. This is due to some little phenomenon called GLOBALIZATION. i might as well stop eating kimchi and ramyun since im not korean too! i was given a kimono from one of Japanese friends but i guess i cant wear that cuz im not Japanese! Also, we might as well stop listening to kpop cuz we are not korean! haha oops!

A lot of ppl fail to notice how much kpop appropriated WHITE CULTURE and white beauty. everywhere i turn i will see white chicks popping in all these kpop vids! and the increasing use of english in kpop is catastrophic and a lot of Korean words are just LITERALLY ENGLISH WORDS. I know cuz im learning the language and the more words i learn, the more similarities i see with it and english. OMG And the way they idolize white ppl is simply DEVASTATING. Baekhyun has even said that he wish he looked more like kris because he is more western looking while he looks so “asian”. 

what i dont understand about this god forsaken site is that ppl will pick and choose what is “appropriation” and what is not like there is ZERO consistency. 

Think about it! we will throw stones at white ppl for dipping their hands in any culture but when asian ppl do it, its okay! …..NOPE!

No one can tell me that Korean culture should be respected anymore than they respect my culture. 

NO ONE CAN TELL ME THAT KOREAN CULTURE SHOULD BE RESPECTED MORE WHILE BLACK CULTURE AND AFRICAN CULTURE IS REPEATEDLY SHITTED ON

CUZ NOW U ARE TELLING ME WHAT CULTURES ARE WORTH POLICING PEOPLE FOR APPROPRIATION AND WHICH ONES ARE NOT. 

AND IF ANYONE SAYS “WELL… AFRICAN AMERICAN CULTURE AND AFRICAN CULTURE ARENT AS LEGITIMATE/OLD/RESPECTED AS KOREAN/ASIAN CULTURE..” I WILL HANG MYSELF AND MY DYING WORDS SHALL BE “AYYE GULL”. 

i think one of the only reasons why ppl are making a big deal about this oppa/unnie/ bullshit is cuz korea used to be so inclusive and separated that they arent used to foreigners admiring or using their culture until recently. korean is thousands of years old with deep rooted history i dont think a bunch of teenage girls on the internets are going to diminish that. Have u ever even called a Korean man oppa before?? Do u even know how HAPPY they get when they heard that shit???

As a bitter Nigerian, my culture has been raped and ridiculed for what seems to be eons so forgive me not reciprocating the same respect that others fail to give to me and my people. 

Who knows, maybe ill stop when Baekhyun stops making fun of China lines Korean. When stans stop using “Ggamjongin” for their tasteless humour, or when fellow idols stop dragging Kai and other “darker” idols about their skin color in general.
