BABii is a small girl who makes big noises. After sharing her first ever track online at the end of last year, the emerging Margate-based artist is back with her icy electronics on new single ‘SEiiZURE’. BABii will release her debut LP later this year via Deathwaltz Originals.
We did a quick Q&A via e-mail with the up-and-comer about the new single, her songwriting process, upcoming debut album and more. Read it below.
You've just released your new single 'SEiiZURE'. What can you tell us about the track? What inspired you to write it?
(つ◕౪◕)つ━☆ﾟ.*·。ﾟI am 100% fuelled by my emotional responses to things when I write any song, *· and it probably comes from me striving to be a 100% rational being in real life. So when I get some big scary intense feeling I try and hide away from the world and throw it all up into a song, most of HiiDE is probably the most negative end of the spectrum, ·*☆ but I guess its good to turn something horrible and destructive into something positive. ‘SEiiZURE’ is kinda about the stages of a deteriorating relationship, and drifting away from someone, 1, being whole with someone, 2, .*· (which was in the original lyrics) feeling apart from someone, and 3, ☆ when the other person has moved on and there is someone else.·*:.。. .。.:*·゜ﾟ·*☆

What is your songwriting process?
*＊✿❀ This is gonna reveal as much to me as it will to you, hehe. I guess the average process is this, but it changes a bit sometimes. The first part is the words, which is like the seed. I have 1000 notes on my phone, which I constantly add potential lyrics too, it could be anything from something that I heard on the back of the bus to a passing comment in a film to something that I write down cause I am having a brain glitch. The next part is messing around on logic for a few hours until something sticks, then I start going though my lists of words and adding to them and start singing and then I just let everything dictate each other and I kinda zone out for a couple of days and surprise myself with a song. ❀✿＊*
‘SEiiZURE' and your previous single 'PHANTOM' are both taken from your upcoming debut LP HiiDE. What can you tell us about the album?
‧͙⁺˚*·༓☾ I recorded 7 of the songs in loads and loads of different hiding places, but mixed them all in the same place, and the other 2 me and Adrain Sherwood did, with the help of my friend Theo who made that ‘Roots Manuva - Witness the Fitness’ Bassline and I like it. ☽༓･*˚⁺‧͙
What kind of things have you learned during the process of making your first full length record?
*·ﾟﾟ·*:.。..。.:*ﾟ:*:✼✿ Rationally, I have learnt that I am way more self sufficient than I thought, and can mix things myself. ✿✼:*ﾟ:.。..。.:*·ﾟﾟ·*
♥*♡∞:。.。 Emotionally, I hope that I’m never in the same hell that prompted me to make most of the songs on the record. 。.。:∞♡*♥
