It rains on the way home from practice, drenching their clothes and soaking the inside of Tooru’s shoes such that every move feels like he’s stepping into a puddle.
Of all days to forget an umbrella…
Hajime is two paces ahead of him, attempting to shield his head from the downpour with his school bag. It’s a valiant effort, but it made little to no difference—they probably look ridiculous, running in the rain like this. Despite the discomfort and the seething cold (and the fact that he’s likely to catch a cold after all this), Tooru feels the urge to laugh.
Hajime glances over his shoulder at him, expression irritable. Oi, what’s so funny?
Nothing, nothing. Tooru smiles.
Hajime sighs, exasperated, used to Tooru’s antics. He holds out his hand.
Come on. You’re going to get sick like that.
I think it’s a little too late for that, Iwa-chan.
He grabs his hand anyway. It’s warm, sending heat pooling into the tips of his fingers. Tooru holds on tight and feels Hajime hold on tighter.
They run holding hands, like something out of an embarrassingly cheesy chick flick. Tooru’s face is burning. He wonders what Hajime’s face looks like right now, but all he can see is his back, and the tips of his ears. They’re red.
Iwa-chan, he calls out.
What? Hajime doesn’t look back, eyes on his feet so he doesn’t slip on the pavement.
I love you, Tooru says, shouts as loud as he can, voice competing with the rain. I love you!
Hajime doesn’t answer, and he thinks maybe he didn’t hear him.
Iwa-chan—
I know, Hajime shouts back, still facing forward. I know, you idiot! Stupid! Dumbass! Kusokawa!
Tooru laughs and pulls back on his hand so Hajime stumbles into him.
I love you, Iwa-chan.
Dumbass. Hajime grumbles, looking away. You don’t think I know that already?
Tooru only grins, holds Hajime’s face in his hands, eyes unbearably soft.
I love you. I love you!
Stop saying it, stupid, I told you I already know!
Tooru laughs and presses their lips together. It’s awkward and messy and their noses bump against each other several times. They’re both soaking wet and the rain isn’t letting up at all, but everywhere Hajime touches him is so, so warm.
I love you, he says again, can’t count how many times he’s said it; after years and years of holding them back, now he can’t stop.
I know, Hajime replies, presses his forehead against his. I know.
Period: Ah yes, the perfect prompt to ask something inappropriate. Tell us about how your muse has struggled with puberty so far.
Puberty was… interesting for Rin, to say the least. He went through the major portions of puberty while abroad, so it was also kind of a struggle. Not only did he have to deal with the teasing about his lack of improvement in swimming, but he learned just how cruel kids can be when your voice cracks when you shout at someone in anger.
Pilot: Does your muse have any major fears? Like heights or the dark?
As cool and "hard boiled" as she may act, Naoto's greatest fear is being alone and unneeded. If she's not needed, in terms of work or as a person, then there would be no reason for her to remain in a place, thus her past habit of remaining an independent detective.
