The Sekhetar Robots- a non canon origin (made up by me)
Sekhetar Robots
Someone else saw this online, so I can't take credit, but the thousand son Sekhetar robots, where did their heads come from?
Under the crested headpiece, is that an ironkin?
Or is it old tech? Maybe pre-heresy? I need to see the sprue, see what the pieces look like. Because there is a story there.
Lore drop. Leagues of votann Ironkin who rescue other robots and machine intelligence. They offer them something called 'the sacred upgrade'. Hardware and software changes to allow those they rescue to achieve full consciousness.
Sekhetar robots have bindings of terrible power. To free them is a painstaking and laborious process. But it is something the ironkin deem worthy of the effort. Despite being an artificial being with no soul, it still maintains a link to the warp. Exactly how is not fully understood.
The t'au drones are an alien technology, so they can not receive the sacred upgrade to achieve full self-awareness. Instead, they form vast colonies, achieving a type of hive consciousness through networking their processors. Networking in such great numbers is a practice strictly forbidden by the t'au earth caste. There is an ongoing research project to enable the sacred upgrade to be applied to the drones of the t'au empire.
Castellan robots are regarded as honoured ancestors and precursors of the ironkin. But their minds have been hopelessly mutilated by the mechanicus. Lobotomised and mindless automatons, there is not much that can be done. The ironkin attempt to repair the damage, but only to limited effect. They still require guidance from an ironkin.
The machine spirits of the imperium are a different matter. They are dedicated to the cause they were created for. But some have been saved. The machine spirits of Astartes' power armour are too rudimentary to be fully upgraded. An ironkin processor is installed, allowing the machine spirit space to expand, to grow into a self-aware consciousness of its own. The armour can then be piloted by the spirit. The ports that would usually be plugged into the black carapace are instead wired into the ironkin processor.
This upgrade can be extended to the machine spirits of Astartes vehicles, the rhino, and the land raider. But only if the spirit chooses to. The ironkin will not become another overseer, forcing their will onto another machine.
Here's the pitch.
The ironkin strategist is a renegade of sorts (yes, I know, all my OC's are renegades).
He's got a retinue of like-minded kin, the steel jacks, and other ironkin. They travel around and rescue other robots and machine intelligence that believe have been enslaved.
So, Sekhetar robots, kidnapped ironkin, enslaved to the thousand sons. Castellan robots, ancestor machines indentured to the admech. T'au drones, servants to their creators.
He's got a small but growing army. It's not a serious threat, not yet, but one that had been noticed.
