This is my fic for the third challenge. I worked with Roxana and Cillia. We decided to work with a public school because only sixes, sevens, and eights really attend public schools, as it is mentioned briefly in the beginning of The Selection. There are probably a lot of inconsistencies and some different minor plot lines between our fics because we couldn’t find a time to role play together. Also please ignore any spelling or grammar mistakes, I’m not the best writer. •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• I looked around the Women’s Room looking for a partner. Ashton had just announced that our third challenge would be a service project to help the sevens and eights of Angeles, and that we could work with up to two other girls. Most girls had already found groups but I wasn’t really sure who to ask. That’s when I spotted Roxana on the other side of the room. I started making my way over to her when I felt a tug on my arm. It was Cillia, “Hey Cambia! Would you maybe want to work with me?” I paused for a second before responding,“Sure!” I glanced back over at Roxana. Turning back to Cillia I asked, “I was just about to ask Roxana if she would work with me. Do you want to be a group of three?” “That sounds like a great plan to me!” We both went up to Roxana and asked her if she’d be interested in joining our group. She agreed and we all immediately got to brainstorming. “Come in!” I shouted towards the door. I was in my room putting the finishing touches on my makeup. I heard both Cillia and Roxana come bounding into my room. “Hi girls!” I called. “Hello!” they chimed. They both had armfuls of their dresses and they plopped them down on my bed. We had decided that for our project we would sponsor a primary school by giving them much need school supplies and teaching materials. And in order to buy the supplies we would host a fundraiser at the school by auctioning off some of our dresses. We had invited local charities, notable Twos, and Threes in the teaching field, to the auction. As I slipped on a pair of flats I said, “My maids and I picked out some of my dresses that I had worn on the Reports and put them in the car downstairs. Are you girls ready?” Cillia spoke first, “I didn’t ask my maids to help, so you’ll have to help me get these downstairs, but other than that I’m ready.” Roxana smiled, “I took almost all my dresses, I guess I am ready! My maids screamed when they saw what I had done!” We all started laughing imagining Roxana’s maids screaming when they open the doors to find all of her dresses missing. Once we had composed ourselves, each of us picked up as many dresses as we could hold and made our way to the car. We stuffed all our dresses in the trunk and slid into the backseat. The second we were all in, the driver pulled away from the palace and started driving towards the suburbs of Angeles. About 10 minutes in Roxana broke the silence, “Do you think it’ll be ok? I don’t want this to be a disaster.” “Yeah, I’m a little worried too” Cillia added. “I think it’ll be great. There’s no need to stress. We know that people will be there and that we have full support from the school.” I said, trying to bring a positive outlook. I was a little nervous too, but I didn’t want to show it, because if all of us were nervous we would never be able to pull this off. Roxana still wasn’t convinced, “Yes, but I want to help them so much and I hope they won’t be disappointed.” I sighed, “Roxana, they will appreciate anything we can do to help them. Don’t doubt yourself, I know we can do this.” I could tell she didn’t believe me 100%, but hey she looked semi-certain and that’s better than having no faith in yourself at all. “Does someone in the castle know what we’re doing? I wanna keep the surprise until The Report.” Both Cillia and I shook our heads. A look of relief washed over Roxana’s face, “Ok, cool! Lets talk about something else.” “I wonder when we’ll get the opportunity to meet the children at the school.” said Cillia. A thought popped into my head, “So when we get to the school how about we go visit some of the kids and maybe pick a buddy for the day?” Both of the girls seemed to like that idea and nodded in agreement. The conversation then drifted to Ashton, but I wasn’t really paying that much attention, and after about five more minutes the car stopped. Looking out the windows we realized we had reached our destination. We all climbed out of the car and went to grab our dresses. “I didn’t think the school was so close to the palace.” Roxana muttered. “I guess we didn’t realize how there are people in need almost right at the steps of the palace.” I said quietly. “That’s insane. People are suffering so close to the government, but there’s nothing to help them.” Roxana sighed and started gathering her dresses together. “Yeah, it’s really depressing.” I said. “I guess it’s good we have this challenge though, at least we can do something for them.” Cillia added. We all nodded and busied ourselves with our dresses. As we stared walking to the front door Cillia and Roxana spotted a group of children over by the playground and went to go talk to them. So I offered to take their dresses and I went and displayed the dresses in the assembly hall. When I returned the kids were engaged in conversation with Cillia and Roxana and they were brainstorming what they thought their school needed. Some kids were saying a slide, some books, and one kid was insisting on a pet fish. We were all laughing at the last remark when Roxana spotted the headmaster. We asked the kids if they would want to help us for the rest of the day, they said yes, and we all followed the headmaster inside. We walked down the hall towards where the auction would be held as Mr.Morgan, the headmaster, told us that the school had already set up chairs and tables with food for the event. When we reached the assembly hall the kids were all running around looking at all the dresses we had set up while our guests began to arrive. I was glad for Cillia who was helping keep the kids in order. And Roxana, who was greeting the guests and telling them about our project. As I began to take bids on the various dresses. About half an hour in the teachers came to collect the children and we said our goodbyes to them, and said we would be back soon with gifts. At the end of the auction we gave a, very impromptu, speech about how we chose to assist local education and our project. In the end we ended up auctioning off almost every single one of our dresses, except two. We raised enough money give each student proper school supplies and outfit every classroom with high quality teaching materials. We even had money left over to buy the kids the best playground slide I have ever seen. And I will never forget the look one those kids faces when they saw the slide.
