ladyanj tagged me! Thanks hon ;D
Story time! (Oh, also, spoilers)
When did you read the Selection?: I believe it was April 2014. I read the Selection and the Elite in the span of like 2 or 3 days I think (in the middle of the school week. I was a senior... I had more time then.) It was a sad day when I realized that the One was not actually out yet. (Bonus round: it took me until about November of that year to convince my best friend to read them, after she listened to me cry about Maxon Schreave for months. When she finally read them she sent me text updates with her progress.... it was very amusing. Especially when she complained about hating Celeste. Just you wait, honey...)
How did you find out about the book?: During my junior and senior years, I volunteered at the library once a week. My favorite job was shelving the YA books, because I could scout out new books to read. So I saw the Selection one of those days, and was drawn to the pretty cover, and the description sounded amazing. I think it was a few weeks later though until I saw it again - if I remember correctly, somebody had left it on the wrong shelf, and I kinda just left it there, hidden out of the way, until my shift was over and I could find it and check it out. Probably wasn’t the best thing for me to do... but it was pretty and I just had to read it, so I didn’t want anyone to take it!
Were you “Team Aspen” for the first half of the book?: Lol nope, I was never Team Aspen. Sorry. He’s a great guy, but I was Team Maxon as soon as I read the summary. Like before we even met Maxon in the book, I was in love with him. One of my biggest struggles as a book nerd is getting into books - if the beginning doesn’t interest me, and my life is busy, then I probably won’t finish it. So it actually really helped me that you know America is going to be Selected, because wanting her to get to the palace already was what got me through the first few chapters. By then, I was hooked and still have not escaped ;D (not that they were boring first chapters or anything, but that’s why I read it in 24 hours - I could not put it down because I NEED MORE MAXON SCHREAVE). So yeah, Aspen was never my thing. Actually, for some of the same reasons that Keadlyn isn’t my thing. I’m not big on intense make out seshs and stuff, just a personal preference.
What’s your favorite book and why?: I love them all! I guess I’d have to say the One though. Some of my favorite scenes are in that one. A lot of my favorite quotes are from that one too. Plus, I have a signed copy, so that’s cool!
Approximately how many times did you yell at America while reading the Selection?: ALL THE TIMES. Especially when she was being dumb and getting mad at my baby Maxon ;D :*
If you could change one part of the series, what would you change?: Hmm. I’m not sure. Perhaps I’d resurrect some of the people that die, like Amberly or Shalom or Celeste. Or maybe (y’all are gonna hate me for this) I’d take out some of the more, ah, PG-13 bits, because I tend to skim over those anyway. But that’s just me.
Anyway! That was fun! Okay, so I have no idea who has done this yet, but I’ll tag hushedhands reading-by-the-full-moon fangirlingforinfinity erikandeadlyn and america-darling but if you’ve already done this then just ignore me.
