How to sync individual files in Dropbox
I know this hack has been covered before, but it’s worth revisiting until Dropbox adds it as a built-in feature. Let's say you have a file called userdata.tmp located at C:\Dropbox\MyApp\ that keeps changing and leaving behind a bunch of "conflicted copies" across your PCs. The best thing to do in this case would be to tell Dropbox to sync everything in the folder EXCEPT this file. Here’s how to do that:
Temporarily move userdata.tmp to another folder outside of the Dropbox folder.
Create a folder named userdata.tmp inside the MyApp folder.
Go to Dropbox Preferences / Account / Selective Sync and uncheck this new folder. Once it is selected not to be synced anymore, it should automatically be removed by Dropbox (if not, then remove it manually).
Move the userdata.tmp file back into MyApp.
Congratulations, this file will no longer be synced by Dropbox!
