Stolitz Self Destructive Patterns Season 1&2
As individuals, Stolas is a very lonely people-pleaser, and Blitz has low self esteem with an over-developed fight or flight reflex.
Neither try to self-reflect or work on these behaviours as individuals, because just, surviving is enough hard work for each day.
But the trick is because they’re both self destructive it loops. They make their own problems on top of the problems that other people shove onto them.
Then they’re made even more tired and there’s always someone that needs them. Which keeps their attention. So they don’t try to change their self destructive tendencies.
So why did Stolitz happen at all?
To Stolas, Blitz is the one that cracked open the closet for him and asked him what he wanted and then gave it to him. Made him feel wanted. Blitz made him feel this way even if in reality he's mostly still just seeing the performance.
To Blitz, Stolas is The Prince.
Who apparently has one little weak spot being that he's extremely pent up.
It starts with one night but Stolas just keeps coming back.
Blitz didn't pursue this relationship.
Stolas flipped the dynamic Blitz used to secure IMP. Stolas provides the need and Blitz is the one who has to stay.
To keep the book, Blitz is almost constantly performing for Stolas' attention. Feeding into the fantasy that Stolas craves.
Blitz needs the grimoire, it's an essential resource to keeping his family fed, cared for, and living well.
Stolas needs to feel seen the way a starving man needs full meals instead of a diet of hard tack.
This creates a power imbalance that disadvantages Blitz.
But Stolas doesn't see this in the beginning too blinded by his own happiness.
Blitz interprets this as indifference.
That perceived indifference however doesn't keep Stolas from slipping through the cracks of Blitz’s defences. Slowly but surely The Prince blurs, and Blitz starts to see the silly, attention-seeking bird man.
The best part is that Stolas isn’t actually trying to change Blitz’s mind about him he’s just being himself. Getting to be his own person for maybe the first time ever and it’s a blast for him.
So it takes time for the fantasy to fall apart.
And when it does it’s undeniable.
Stolas starts to see that Blitz isn't happy the way he is when they're together.
Stolas is putting pressure on Blitz to be who it is Stolas needs him to be.
Which is the same bullshit Stolas has been put through his whole life.
When Stolas sees this and tries to correct this unfairness-
Blitz lashes out at him brutally.
He claws the relationship to ribbons because of feelings he didn't even know he had because Blitz had worked so hard to not know himself.
And it breaks Stolas’s heart.
This. This episode Full Moon. Was the culmination of months of Blitz leaving Stolas twisting in the wind. Months of Blitz knotted up inside but doing ANYTHING to not acknowledge what he feels.
The two of them put each other.. through hell. All because they both made each other feel like the other didn’t care.
So what's gonna happen to them?
(Part three, last one coming up where I finally make the goddamned point)
