Sehun tries his best to keep his outer appearance calm and collected as he takes a seat in front of the interviewer; hands poised naturally on his lap. Though anyone could spot his nervousness from miles away with all the fidgeting he was doing. It had been his first day shooting for My Dear Archimedes, and although it was already his second Chinese-Korean collaboration film, that pressuring feeling to do his best and not disappoint anyone followed him all throughout the day. Whether he was going on stage for the umpteenth time or filming something new, he always gave things his best effort, for the sake of both himself and others.
A bashful smile makes its way onto his lips as the interviewer begins their inquiry, Sehun, making sure to place diligent attention onto each and every question asked.
Q: How does it feel to truly bear the weight of being the fruit of the company’s efforts upon your shoulders with every move you make?
S: There are a lot of feelings that come with this, it’s definitely something dynamic when you think about it. However, I haven’t gone through it alone. I’ve had the support of all the members to help me get through both the good and the bad. When things feel a little stressful, they’re a group of really good brothers that I can rely on. Although I have to be very careful with how I handle things, I’m also able to enjoy myself, which is what life is all about, right? I wouldn’t be here if I wasn’t truly happy. The good thing about having elder hyungs is that they all look out for me, as well. So things are never too difficult to handle. I’m forever grateful.
Q: How does it feel to finally be taking one step closer towards what you’ve always dreamt of?
Sehun pauses for a moment to truly absorb the question, not at all knowing where to begin. He’s taken back to his adolescent days -- his indecisive career choices that were always deemed to be too farfetched for him. And he feels a sense of pride swell inside of him, enough to get him a little emotional. Because here he is now, after all the pain, the struggles, and the tears. For a mere twenty-two year old male, he’s had the opportunities of a lifetime. It’s one of those things he knows not to take for granted.
S: To be very honest with you, it took awhile for me to find my passion. But once I did, I made sure to work hard towards it, because that’s all anyone can do, right? There’s always a chance for failure, but giving your all towards something is already an accomplishment in itself. Pushing yourself to try new things merely opens up opportunities for trying even newer things. It’s like a cycle. That’s how my interest in acting began. Aside from the idol life, I’ve always aspired to try something new like this (acting). To be able to have this opportunity is truly an indescribable feeling. Although things might not always go smoothly, it is something that I don’t take for granted and I try my hardest in. Hearing praises from friends and family is definitely a rewarding feeling, too. To sum it up, it feels rewarding to be able to make it this far. I know I’m still young and have plenty to learn, but I’m extremely happy and thankful to be here amongst such highly respected sunbaes in the acting industry. Everyone in my life has made this possible for me, and I’ll try my hardest to not let them down.
The interview soon ends, and by the end of it, there’s a sense of warmth blooming inside Sehun’s chest. It’s moments like these where he comes to appreciate life in its entirety, for everything that it’s worth. Although he knows he’s not perfect, he strives to be the best version of himself, always. Which is enough to keep him sated.
He walks back on the set in high spirits that’ll guide him for the rest of the night.
Sehun stepped out onto the balcony, fingers shoved warmly inside the pockets of his jacket. There was a faint tune coming from his phone’s speaker -- a mellow track that he’d been listening to for a week straight now. It wasn’t surprising that the male had found solace somewhere in the music -- he was an idol, after all. He thoroughly enjoyed it.
Resting his elbows over the balcony’s ledge, the male peered out into the city with troublesome thoughts clouding over him. It was so hard for the male to even gather them himself. Despite all those around him doing all that they could, he seemed to be fighting his own battle this time around. It wasn’t necessarily a feeling of loneliness, but more of feeling like he was too much or too little at times. And he had wanted nothing more than to put a stop to that -- to put down his guard and just live life comfortably. He’s always been more on the emotional side, and that was something that many people (and fans) seemed to catch on quickly after knowing Sehun for a certain period of time. Does he invest too much? Too little? Sehun would always struggle with this idea. There were so many things he missed, so many things he wanted, so many things that he could never say.
Life really didn’t wait for anyone, he noticed. If you were unhappy, it didn’t slow down for you until you were ready to get back up. And if you were happy, time passed by way too quickly for your liking. Sometimes the male just wishes he could go back and fix all the problems he’s ever made; all the slip ups he’s ever done, whether it was on stage or off it. But then, how would that teach him anything? We learn through our mistakes, after all. As difficult as life was, or is, it would be okay. Eventually, it would. The optimist inside of him was slowly finding his way through.
His nimble fingers fumbled with the lighter that was settled somewhere inside his pocket, itching for a fix that he hadn’t had in a long time. The music had long been shut off, and Sehun was lost in his thoughts once more. Without much more of a hesitation, the male brought out his freshly purchased carton of Esse Lights, placing a stick between his lips. Flicking on the lighter, the male lit up in his silence; lungs inhaling the bitter fumes that came along with it. A small smile settled onto his lips at the nostalgic feeling the cigarette brought onto him. Not one of his best ideas, but an idea nonetheless. Yeah. Everything’ll be okay.
