When I was teaching social studies we were told never, ever to let on we were teaching "critical thinking." Not out loud. Never in writing. Even though it was in the state curriculum guidelines.
Letting on that we were teaching their children to analyze sources and think critically about information, history, politics, etc. is how you end up with pickets in front of your school.
